Really hazy dark owner color with beige head. Aroma has caramel malt, orange rind, some piney hops and a hint of dried figs. Taste is really balanced. Slightly sweet caramel malt at first, dried oranges, figs, medium, earthy and resiny bitterness on the finish with some dried orange peel. Medium body, smooth mouthfeel. Overall it's a good DIPA / American barleywine with a well hidden abv.

22 ounce bottle, bottled on 10/09/2014. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a murky amber/burnt orange color with about an inch light tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. The brew smells like apricot, caramel malt, grapefruit, toffee, and grain/corn. It tastes like caramel malt, apricots, toffee, citrusy hops (grapefruit), sweet malt, grain/corn, pine hops, candied oranges, and some tropical fruit. Nice mix of bitter and sweet flavors. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's syrupy and coating with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was good, although I did expect it to be hoppier than it was. Still, it's definitely worth trying. I liked it.

On tap at the brewery, 10/14/2014;

Golden amber in color. Very little head. Lots of lacing. Not sweet like most others of the same style. Bitter tangerines, straw with a bit of a "hot" finish. It does have a nice mouth feel to it, nice and smooth with a slight carbonation.
Overall, I wanted to like this beer (barley wine), as it's one of my favorite styles, but wasn't impressed. Worth a try but nothing spectacular. 3.9/5

22 oz. bottle, with bottled on date 07/09/2014 it appears. My first of any of the "goop" beers from Mikeller and Three Floyd's, this one being the bottled Three Floyd's version.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a thick deep orange body with a finger of doughy tan froth for a head. Lots of sticky scattered webbed lacing. Looks very nice.

S - The aroma is full of sweetened sugary caramel malts, fruity / jammy tangerine, orange, and pine. Very slightly yeasty. Smells like your typical big boozy barleywine / DIPA fare. No detectable corn / grain on the aroma.

T - The taste follows the nose - plenty of sugary caramel malts and lots of bitter resinous piney / tangerine / orange hops. Imbalanced; a bit too malty for my liking.

M - The feel is thick and full-bodied. Sticky & syrupy, but easy drinking for the high abv.

Overall, not unique or special. The abv is well-hidden, but the beer is imbalanced and way sweet. Still, I'm very interested to try the other beers in this series.

Three Floyd's / Mikkeller Majsgoop -----4/5.
