Brief review below on account of a less-than-ideal review environment:

BOTTLE: Purchased for $11.99 USD in Indiana. Decent label design & art. 1 pint 6 fl oz.

Expectations are below average given the style and brewery (3 Floyds seems unable to execute traditional styles, and what in fuck's name is a doppel Kolsch anyway?). Served cold into a tulip.

No bubble show forms as it's poured.

HEAD: About 7cm. White colour. Average characteristics. Retention is nice - about 4-5 minutes. Leaves no lacing as it recedes.

BODY: Murky translucent nontransparent pale copper with orange and gold hues. No yeast is visible within,

Appears well-carbonated. Not filtered in appearance like any good Kolsch would be. It's okay.

AROMA: Dry Munich malt. Grains. Doughy yeast. Grassy Noble hops. Balance seems off; I believe it's overhopped. A kiss of lemon zest.

Aromatic intensity is average.

TASTE: Follows the aroma, with more of a lemon zest edge than I anticipated. Pilsner and Munich malts fill out the body, with some grassy Noble hops lending a kiss of bitterness. Balance is okay but not dialed in. Somewhat shallow. Definitely simple.

There isn't much to say about it given its simplicity and straightforwardness.

TEXTURE: Overcarbonated, somewhat refreshing, smooth, wet, light-bodied, crisp, and clean. Disguises its ABV okay.

OVERALL: There's not a harmony of texture and taste, and the build isn't gestalt, but it's an okay beer for what it is. Drinkable but forgettable. 3 Floyds' strong suit is not traditional German styles, and this drinks only a little better than its nonsense "doppel Kolsch" designation might suggest. I wouldn't buy it again, but it's decent.

Eh, it is what it is . . . Nothing great but it's ok. Not a good take on the style. Just my .02

22 ounce bottle, bottled on 02/18/2015. Served in a stange/altbier glass, the beer pours a hazy gold color with a couple inch frothy white head. Head retention and lacing are both good. The brew smells like grassy hops, bready and sweet malt, and some lemon. For the most part I think the taste is just like the aroma, but with the addition of some floralness and a bit of honey. Nice amount of bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a little coating and crisp with a good amount of carbonation. I thought this was an enjoyable brew, glad I got to try this one! $9.49 a bomber.

Look: beautiful golden hues, 2 fingers of white head.

Smell: grassy goodness with some lemon notes.

Taste: Kolsch squared - I get grains and grassy flavors, and that lemony flavor I love in every Kolsch I've tried.

Feel: nicely carbed, very crisp.

Overall: I'm a fan of Kolsch's, so a Doppel Kolsch is twice as nice. Reading the reviews here, apparently I'm swimming upstream, but I think 3F's and Sun King nailed this, at least to the style. Well done.

I really liked this beer. Not sure why all of the negative reviews. I guess people expect the typical huge bold hoppiness that usually accompanies FFF beers. I guess people don't understand that this is a Kolsch style, albeit a hop pier amped up version of a traditional Kolsch. The whole point of the kolsch style is elegance through simplicity. This hit the mark for Me. Brilliantly clear, lovely fluffy head with great lacing and retention. Delicious grainy german Pils flavor with big punch of noble hops. Clean bitterness to balance the sweetness. All around a delicious, drinkable, and refreshing beer.

Average. A bit too sour and carbonated for my taste. Still worth a sip to support two great Indiana breweries.
