22 ounce bottle into signature teku glass, bottled on 10/17/2017. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of huge nutty dark roast espresso, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, cream, fudge, toasted oats, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of smoke, charcoal, fruit, herbal, wood, and roast/toasted earthiness. Incredible aromas with fantastic complexity and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, espresso, and light earthy hop notes; with big strength. Taste of big nutty dark roast espresso, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, cream, fudge, toasted oats, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of smoke, charcoal, fruit, herbal, wood, and roast/toasted earthiness. Mild herbal/woody hop and roasted coffee bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of nutty espresso, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, cream, fudge, toasted oats, dark/brown bread, light smoke/charcoal, herbal, wood, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, espresso, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet balance, and zero acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy, bready, silky, and lightly velvety mouthfeel that is fantastic. Mild chalky roast, hop stickiness, and dryness. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.7%. Overall this is a fantastic coffee oatmeal stout! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, espresso, and light earthy hop flavors; extremely smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Far less hoppy than I expected for Three Floyds. Extremely rich/intense nutty/fruity coffee with awesome balanced oatmeal stout malt complexity. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Chocolate cake (without the frosting), fudge, bakers chocolate, French roast, roasted grains, toast. Aroma is killer - all of the above. Taste follows right behind although it's the hefty bitterness of coffee that punches through first and assaults the palette. Certainly not subtle. The bitterness follows through in the mouthfeel and it's surprisingly thin (not watery) considering the aroma. Not sweet or balanced - it's a coffee-forward beer and it makes no pretense otherwise, on the label or your palette. Great example of the style - smooth as all hell.

If you cannot find Dark Lord this is a wonderful replacement. Smooth, no bitters before or after, aromatic. If you are looking for a superb light Oatmeal Stout look no further.

Bottle courtesy of izzyismyrott.
L: like a coffee stout should.
S: chocolate and coffee. Molasses.
T: same as smell. Some roasted malt flavor. Pretty light and sweet. Milky.
F: appropriate for a stout. Not too thick or thin. Creamy and soft. Milky. Would have guessed much lower abv in 5% range.
Overall: Pleasant. Reminds me of a mocha or a milk stout.

Thoroughly loved from the 22 oz bottle in a snifter. This FANTASTIC stout pours a muddy blackish brown with a firm head of light brown foam that settles to a thick ring, thick pool, and most excellent lacing. Nose of rich coffee, fudgey brownies, and cream. Flavors exceed the nose with cold pressed coffee sans bitterness with a fudge laced brownie from front to mid palate. Middle to back features rich caramel and cream blending nicely with the coffee, and finally smoothed out by the mellowness of oats. Coating and full mouth feel with a dark roasted coffee note on the aftertaste. One of the best of the style I have EVER had bar none.

Three Floyd's slams another one out of the mosh pit!

Cheers!

Nose is strong, predominantly of coffee. Taste is the same - lots of coffee, but also roasted malt flavours, toffee and chocolate. Slightly overcarbonated, but not irritating and the body is very smooth. Very good - a tad one dimensional, but really tasty.

Poured from a bomber, 73 days young. Color is deep black; head is like shaken chocolate milk. Oily lacing that drips down the glass towards a nicely retained foam. The smell is your average Starbucks mocha frappuccino. Taste is roughly the same, but more coffee forward. Big coffee hit washed down with chocolate and a light bit of bitterness. Ultraslick mouthfeel that teeters perilously to being too thin. On the other hand, provides a great alternative to the mega stouts that have a similar flavor profile. Nice beer 3F.

Bomber. Pours deep brown, thin head. Sweet sugary aroma with some coffee and fruit mixed in. Sweet lactose flavor and fruity hops, very different combination but it works. Mouthfeel is smooth and silky. Didn't know what to expect with this one, but it didn't disappoint; sugary sweet coffee with hops, liked it.
