Pour from a 22oz bomber. Wasn’t expecting much based on their previous sour offerings which were mostly a mess of lactic acid. Hazy yellow. Aroma punches you in the face with sour pear, touch of lemon, and sour citrus. Taste is a really nice puckering sour, medium acidity which feels perfectly balanced and about as much juicy jammy pear as I could imagine packed into a beer. It is pretty unbelievable this came out of Three Floyds sour program, wondering if they kidnapped Cory King and Jean Van Roy and forced them to brew this using unicorn tears and witchcraft.

Candy in a glass. Gummy bears, peach rings, Jolly Ranchers, Sour Patch Kids, everything sweet and delectable from your childhood somehow was squeezed into this. Tart qualities match well with the pear and apple flavors.

On-draught @ 3 Floyds. Cost was $7 USD. Expectations are high given the brewery's reputation. Reviewed live on a smartphone; the notes below are brief as a result.

HEAD: None upon serving. No lacing.

BODY: Hazy yellow-copper of average vibrance. Translucent and semitransparent. No yeast is visible within.

Looks nice for a sour, but it's not unique or special.

AROMA: Vivid fresh orchard pears, lactobacillus acidic twang, intricate bacterial notes, and concomitant sourness (about a 6/10 in terms of intensity). Sweetness seems perfect. Loads of green apple and some apple cider vinegar...but it's not acetic per se. Somewhat candied...Jolly Rancher comes to mind. Malt base is neutral - probably Belgian pale malts.

Aromatic intensity is moderate.

TASTE & TEXTURE: Tangy smacky acidity zaps the palate. Heavy notes of orchard pear and vivid green apple, with a candied malt backbone tying things together nicely. Sourness isn't puckering, but it's close, clocking in at about a 7/10 in terms of intensity. Jolly Rancher is dominant here.

Balanced and well built. A superb sour that nevertheless has room for improvement via further intricacy and subtlety. The bacterial complexity is remarkable.

Light-bodied, smooth, wet, refreshing, and acidic. This mouthfeel accentuates the sourness quite well, elevating the beer as a whole. Well executed.

OVERALL: Great work from Three Floyds...possibly my favourite beer they produce. Absolutely a beer I'd recommend to others and one I'd buy again. Stellar sour.

High B+

Just so bad.

I like sour beer. Like candy. Don't want both at the same time and so sour!
Looks good. Clear and fizzy head. Promises good.

Smells so bad. So much fake candy smell.
Taste is the same. Different because of so much added acids. But like cheap sour candy. This should is like wine coolers but so sour.
This is not natural. This is no good.

So bad. So bad.

This beer is rated to style:
From a 22oz. bomber into a simple Lagunitas "ball-jar" style glass. Looks like the common straw color you might expect from a wild with a nice cloudy hew. There is little to no head, but damn the nose. It smells AWESOME!!! A quick swivel brings a very minimal amount of head to life that dies almost immediately. It smells of sour apples, a little bit farmhouse, and PEARS, PEARS, PEARS.!! Pear stands out with prominence. The smell alone is making my mouth water, damn. The flavor is a blast. It is so over the top with sweet and sour balance. Tons of pears and granny smith apples. It is NOT subtle, it is packed with sour and intense flavors, an acidic heavy hitter. One of the best sours I have recently. Strongly recommended.

A- Straw yellow, no real head. Overall looks fairly still.
S- Pears, cider vinegar, sweet tarts, sour patch kids. The thing I love about nose is that you actually smell pear.
T- Starts as sweet pear juice, moves to a great tartness and then lingers with almost a mix of sweet and sour.
F- Medium light. Almost crisp.
O- Wow, I am loving this offering from Floyds. A sour which really highlights one fruit, and one that isn't over played, the pear. Great mix of sweet and sour. Mouth feel is great to... I'm glad there is not a ton of carb in this.

Wow, really surprised by this one. Very sour yet also very pear flavored which just seems like a difficult flavor to have standout in a sour beer. Pricey at $20 but if you have the cash do it, very good.

Pours a gorgeous, slightly hazy, golden orange with little head but active high carbonation.

Pear, sour apples, astringent, and acidic.

Slightly sweet pear, very tart sour apple, high acidity, fruity, and subtle sweetness on the back end.

Light-bodied, high carbonation, fruit, tart, acidity.

Overall, this quickly became one of my favorite sour style beers. Very tasty balance of sweet and sour fruit, with high acidic tartness cleaning the palate and urging you for another sip.
