Has the Dark Lord soy sauce flavor. Then a good bit of cardamom. Cinnamon is lacking though. Some grapes come through via the wine barrel. But FFF should just make more Vanilla.

Poured from a sparkly black wax topped bomber into a Tree House tulip

L: Oily Dark Lord pour. Viscous. Minimal mocha colored head leaves a thin ring of lacing.

S: Complex and spicy. Cardamom, cinnamon, chocolate, roast, and grape.

T.F: Rich and smooth. Cocoa and cardamom. Vinous... oak and wine. Booze and sweets. Light cinnamon... sweets and dark fruit. Wine barrel comes through. Not overly spiced. Smooth and oily on the tongue. Medium bodied... hides the 15% ABV.

O: A very interesting Dark Lord variant, and it held up wonderfully in the cellar. Complex... and a mix of wine, spice, and good old Dark Lord. I may be in the minority but I really enjoyed this. Definitely an experience, and I'd love to be able to compare it to a fresh version.

Appearance - With little visible carbonation, the beer poured a deep black color.

Smell - Cardamom was noted in heavy doses in the nose.

Taste - Age has apparently done this well. Cardamom is very present. The spice is not overwhelmed by thick chocolatey Dark Lord. The sweetness was in the aftertaste, not overly cloying with balance.

Mouthfeel - Motor oil viscosity was present.

Overall - This beer improved nicely with time. Or perhaps I just like cadamom.

That classic Dark Lord void of space ribbons out of the bottle, but only a minimal level of dark tan head displays on top, with no retention, leaving only a faint ring. There are those Dark Lord legs, don't doubt it.

Upon initially prying this one open, an overwhelming smell of wild mint came out of the bottle, as if the combination of all of the unusual attributes transformed. While the temperature starts coming down, the cardamom and cinnamon both pop to really extreme degrees, yet simultaneously combine to an ultra spice force like nothing I've ever experienced. I've taken part in countless experimental meals, high-end, low-end, everything in between, in all sorts of cultures, up your butt and around the corner, but what's going on here is new to me. Deep and exotic, freshly grated, smokey and floral, turning to the familiar American apple pie, graham and molasses, then to the Oriental, with ginger and maybe even Thai basil. Some heavily roasted malt is mostly snuffed out. At first blush, I would have given the aroma a moderately high score, thinking I was getting a chocolatey mint bomb, but after a short while it becomes taxing on the senses.

At first, bright and exotic spices take your palate's attention immediately, but the cardamom speeds up to runaway freight train proportions. Rarely, if ever, have I had such potent cardamom. Knowing others have complained about the Earl of Biggleswade, why FFF wouldn't tone these attributes down is beyond me, but it almost seems like they turned the knob up to 11, you know, just because. Now that I've accepted what I'm in for, the scratch and still potent brush of cinnamon almost runs parallel to the cardamom. Then molasses, dark gingerbread, and black licorice sneak in from behind with a garrote and actually take over for a good while. Long after the swallow, if you give it a good while before the next sip, the unusual combination of attributes creating a mint element leaves a refreshing aftertaste, begging you to start the crazy roller coaster all over again. Maybe it's more accurate to describe it as a Gravitron, since you might have to be a little masochistic to keep going at this one. Sometimes I get a hint of what is almost a burnt plastic taste, but I think that might just be my lack of familiarity with such potency of ingredients. The barrel brings a musty, white wine-turned-hard-liquor twang that runs deep underneath it all.

The spices go down and actually still feel powdered and sandy despite having sat in fluid for at least a year and a half at this point. Temeculan 3000 is both thinner and more boozy than any other year of regular Dark Lord or any variant I have had. I think both the barrel and the spices are responsible for kicking up the perception of alcohol. There is still a bit of froth and heft, and that thick stickiness DL is known for, but not as much.

This is such an adventure in sensory experiences, it is just all over the place. I have had beers that have experimented with flavors, trying to do something unique, or one-up some other brewery with another added spice or barrel treatment, but either the beer itself is poorly made, or the concept is not successful, or some other aspect just makes it suck. In this case, the beer itself is still absolutely stellar, and the spices are top shelf, super fresh seeming and very unique, and the special barrel treatment skyrockets that all to a level I've never experienced or expected. Temeculan 3000 is of a quality unmatched. That being said, I think all of us would be hard pressed to find a person, at least in a Euro-caucasian, Latin, or even Asian country, who would thoroughly enjoy this and be able to drink it in any sort of quantity without being quickly repelled by it, even if enjoying it for a short time. As I write this, my old lady is enjoying the hell out of it, so there you have it, I am simply stupefied.

I just want to know how a group of guys in Munster ever decided to do such a thing to their coveted beer, for multiple years in a row now.

Black in color. Tan head. Oil thick.

This one is very odd. Has a beer jerky and soy sauce flavor. Lots of wine and port like characteristics. Sweet. Oak and grapes. Molasses. Chocolate and fudge.

Full bodied. Rich. Thick.

Out of the 3 we sampled tonight the quit hitting yourself was the best. This was unique but not something if seek out again.

This is such a weird but intriguing beer.

Appearance is awesome, super thick and black like the other BA Dark Lords. In the realm of Toppling Goliath and Cigar City stouts.

Aroma is the weirdest part. The cardamom is incredibly heavy and pretty much all you smell. Very herbal and spicy, smells sort of like Indian food. It's not horrible, just not what you would want in a beer.

Taste is actually pretty good though. The cardamom takes a step back and the cinnamon comes out. Very rich and sweet and the barrel is huge. Sweet chocolate, sweet wine, some rich dark fruit. Pretty complex.

Feel is fantastic, very thick and viscous like other BA Dark Lords, TG stouts and CC stouts.

Overall, it's a pretty good beer actually. I'm not really sure how much of it I could drink, but it was really fun to try.
