Dark brown color with tan head. Aroma has sweetened coffee, brown sugar, dark molasses and roasted malt. Taste is bittersweet, roasty, malty with sweet coffee notes. Medium body and carbonation. Quite good coffee stout but not very complex.

A bomber into a snifter appears black in color with a brown cap that leaves spotty lace.

An aroma of roasty notes, slight pepper, char and licorice.

It tastes of bitter chocolate, earth, anise, old coffee and mildly fruity alcohol.

This is medium in body with modest carbonation. Not bad but nothing I need to drink again. Perhaps this was best enjoyed fresh and not months old.

Listing claims this was barrel aged. There is zero barrel nuance/character to this.

22 ounce bottle into a snifter. Bottled 8/3/17, had 2/9/18.

Pours dark, thick looking and opaque, with a one inch foamy head and some foamy lacing. Aromas of coffee, malt, caramel, toffee, light vanilla and molasses. The taste follows along, for the most part: coffee, malt, cocoa, chocolate, molasses, some vanilla, light caramel. A light bitterness on the finish. Smooth, somewhat creamy, a good full body, well carbonated.

Great coffee aroma and flavor. It’s pretty straightforward, but intense. Solid from top to bottom. Well worth a purchase.

Tasting notes 10/13/17
Had on-tap at 3 Floyds Brewing in Munster, IN

Appearance - Served in a 6oz glass, black with cola brown edging where light can penetrate. Mostly barren surface with a scant trace of suds found along the outer edge of the glass.

Smell - The aroma is divine. It exhibits an excellent balance of the chocolate and roasted coffee qualities that play nicely off the bourbon barrel character of vanilla and soft oak.

Taste - Follows the nose. Punchy flavor of chocolate, molasses and caramel met quickly by a roasty coffee edge, then the barrel flavors come through with sweet bourbon and vanilla. Hint of maple? Soft oak undertone. The finish lingers with a bit of sweet, charred wood.

Mouthfeel - Light-bodied with low carbonation. Slick and smooth upfront before turning to a thin, dry, hot and slightly sticky finish.

Overall - A great BA Coffee Impy Stout. It might benefit from a boost in the chewiness, but aside from that nitpick I think this is a strong offering from 3 Floyds.
