Pours a light copper with a finger of head. The nose has mild citrus notes and an earthy tone as well. The flavor has a nice maltiness for a contemporary IPA. The bitter finish is not so much a punch as a push that reminds the palate that this is still an American version of an IPA.

Decent offering from 3 Floyds. A solid IPA all around and I'm glad that I picked up 6. 3 Floyds is starting to become one of my go to brewerys when it comes to great beer!

This was a nice beer, not one of their greatest IPAs but still enjoyable nonetheless. No date printed on bottle. Pours a lighter golden color with a little fluffy white head and some minimal spotty lingering lacing. Smells of fresh pineapple, grapefruit, lemon, tangerine and a little melon. Also some weaker malt, vanilla, bread and floral hops. Tastes similarly, decent balance between the very mildly bitter hops and sweeter malt backbone. Smooth, mild slightly thin mouthfeel with good carbonation. A decent IPA but likely won’t buy it again since 3 Floyds has so many other outstanding pale ales.

L: Hazy gold-orange with a forever ivory cap and lovely lines of lacing.

S: Candied pine resin!

T: Simple but better than the nose.

F: Bitey carbonation on a light to medium body. Bittersweet.

O: Very good again. 3 Floyd’s are masters of creating variety in the west coast style.

5oz pour at the brewery.

Pours brassy and clear with a big head and nice carbonation. Fresh, clean, floral and fruity smell. Taste is mostly west coast. Pine, resin -- but has a little fruit in it somewhere.

Look: a clear golden amber color with a medium sized white head.
Aroma: sharp citrus, lime, lemon, orange, faint caramel malt.
Taste: followed the aroma. Malt was prominent but not sweet. A distinctive lemon-lime character to the earthy notes.
Feel: medium bodied and dry, clean.
Overall: a very good IPA. Distinctive hop profile.

12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip. 4 weeks old. Very interesting beer.

3F has some of the best looking pale ales around, and this one holds up solidly to that reputation. Light, orange-amber in coloring and opaque without being hazy. Full finger of off-white head made of of tightly-compact, soapy bubbles. Head falls fairly quickly but leaves a nice foam cap and provides solid lacing all the way down the glass. Constant stream of minuscule bubbles rising up from the depths, which allows for a strong build-up in the foam cap as the glass is swirled. Very attractive beer.

Extremely unique nose, with dankness and berries taking the initial lead in a harmonious but striking way. That's followed by lemon peel, mango, melon, white grape, pine, and bready malt. Very herbal and green, with notes of overripe stone and tropical fruits hiding in the background. But the dank, berry punch is really the mark that's left on the memory. Gets me quite excited to dive in.

Unfortunately that unique combination of notes on the nose isn't nearly as exciting on the tongue, though still interesting. There's certainly a deep dankness to each sip, but I get huge lemon rind, lemon-drop, wine grape, and berry candy notes that really dominate the tongue. Notes of citrus, bready wheat, overripe mango, blueberries, pine resin, and wet grass. It's bitter, but there's a degree of residual sweetness that provides some balance. Nice grapefruit pith on the finish. But there's too much lemon and berry for my palette.

Thin but silky and soft body. Goes down smooth, save for the lemon-drop qualities.

12oz bottle. Bottled on date is '09-13-19'.
Clear, deep gold colored body. One finger of white, medium bubble head, which sticks around. Lacing rings and patterns form as the glass is emptied. Lots of fast rising bubbles.
Aroma of citrus (tangerine and lemon) hops, some grass, and solid malt.
Taste of lemon and orange hops, a little mango. Sweet and a little sour at the end. Grassy and toasted malts.
Medium mouth feel, with a sticky texture. Kind of crisp in an IPA way. Very good carbonation.
Well executed hoppy IPA, but not really bitter. More crispy sour at the end. Sweetness with the citrus hops; lemon resin finish. Good change of pace IPA.

Appearance: incredibly hazy; orange-yellow color; lots of sediment; pillowy white head that islands and rims out

Aroma: orange and lemon; hops; hibiscus; grassy/earthy notes; honey

Taste: starts with a bit of lemon; moves into a decent malt backbone with hop flavors starting to creep in; ends with hops, honey, hibiscus; not much of a bite

Mouthfeel: medium bodied; creamy and silky; just a hint too fizzy

Overall Impression: this is an interesting beer; I keep coming back to the hibiscus, which is an unusual flavor/aroma; a little too sweet on the back end to be a great IPA

Necron 99 pours a hazyish copper color, with a long lasting, small lacing head. Big dry hoppy aroma. Flavor is big, hoppy, bitter, with lots of lemon, and an almost sour finish. Good body and feel. Overall, a very citrus filled big IPA.

Bottle dated 10/23/18. GL tulip.

A: pours a slightly hazy orange with bits of tiny suspended sediment. Thin ring and skim of white head. Spotty lacing.

S: sweet tropical, with a grassy edge. Malt backbone makes itself known. Sweet.

T: mild hoppy arrival, crisp malt middle, a little watery/thin in flavor on the finish. Lingering lemon peel. Mild for 3 Floyds.

M: lighter side of medium, well carbonated. Very crisp.

O: a decent, well executed, mild tropical IPA. Not knocking my socks off. Compared to middle finger and lazer snake, I’d put the snake first, then this, then middle finger. A perfectly executed American IPA.

hello all. huge IPA lover here but i stumbled upon this thread quite by accident. Necron 99 is arguably one of my most favorite film characters of all time and it turns out he has his very own beer now. for those of you who do not know ... Necron 99 is from an animated sci-fi film from the 70's called "WIZARDS" (by Ralph Bakshi). its pure, badass, vintage, retro, good vs. evil type stuff. also super psychedelic. the use of the word "Scortch" with "style ale" is a play on words ... its the name of the planet where they live. your earnest assessments have had me chuckling as i read them and see how no detail printed on the bottle goes unnoticed. i hope this disambiguation helps. cannot believe i found this beer and furthermore, cannot wait to taste it. cheers all!

A “good” one from Three Floyd’s. Not the best of their offerings but all in all a solid drinking beer. For the money I would probably chose another option but this one is not bad by any means. If you’ve drank very much Zombie Dust it’s hard to compare their other offerings as they simply aren’t as good. Just my opinion....in the meantime and because this one seems readily available as of late.....enjoy!

Necron 99 brewed by 3 Floyds Brewing Co., With an ABV of 7.30% This American IPA pours out a deep amber color with a small white head. There is also a nice amount of lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of the glass well. This brew was poured into a pint beer glass. The smell is rich with hop bitterness, earthy grains and malts. There is also a nice rich IPA smell to this brew. Now for the taste, it is Bold with flavors. You first pick up on the hop bitterness, with some spices. Then there is a nice smooth amount of earthy grains and malts. This is a well put together American IPA. I can't get over how smooth this brew goes down, it is really hard to pick up on the 7.10% ABV in this American IPA, it is just that smooth. There is nothing overpowering about Necron 99 , it has a super nice balance to it. The body of Necron 99 is a medium to heavy, but not to heavy. The mouth feel is Bold, Rich, Hoppy, Clean, Smooth and Refreshing. Overall I'm going to give Necron 99 a 4.25 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again giving the opportunity to. 3 Floyds Brewing Co., did a super nice job with American IPA.

Slightly cloudy deep orange color with a perfect white fluffy head. The smell was a bit off for me, some grapefruit, a little pine, not much in the smell I really had to breathe it in deep to get a decent nose. The taste was much better than the smell, got hit with a subtle bready sweetness first then a nice wave of citrus fruit that lingered until a little bitter note took over. The mouthfeel was great, a good balance between thickness to hold the flavors in the mouth and dryness to let the hops shine. Overall very good, I didn't see a date on the bottle so it might have aged a bit and the nose was off, but the taste and the mouthfeel made it very good.

Poured into a tall clear glass. Has a hazy, deep golden-orange color with a thick 2" fluffy head. Good lacing.

Smells of melon and white grapes. Bread malt, caramel, tropical fruit and citrus, apricot, tangerine, and grapefruit.

Caramel mixed with the orange and grapefruit peel. The tangerine is present once in the mouth a little bit and swallowed. Taste has a body that is piney. Other notes include mango, lemon zest, sweet hard candy, and brown sugar. Little alcohol taste. Feels very rich and smooth.

12oz Bottle
$10 6-Pack
Three Floyds Kiosk

Necron 99 is an apricot orange beverage with a bit of chill induced haze running throughout the body. Tiny bubbled streams of carbonation run, from what seems, like every surface of the glassware. The foam rises slowly with a widget effect like a Guinness and eventually settles at a robust, meringue-like two fingers in height. That head is gowing nowhere anytime soon. Chunks plaster the glass after each drink.

Floyds, using some of them newfangled hops again. The nose is utterly unique. Big melon and white grape off the bat. Honeydew to be exact. There's a bright spicy bite toward the back that's both herbal and alcoholic before turning fairly citric as it warms. A cake like malt sweetness, when combined with the citric qualities, brings to mind orange marmalade. This is interesting.

The flavor doesn't quite live up to the vivid brightness of the nose. The melon and white grape are present but have fallen behind the citrus. It's got a couple drops of vanilla in there as well. That marmalade quality is back, which is nice. There's a complex maltiness that comes across as yellow cake and white bread crust. As it warms that herbal hoppiness comes across on the finish like a buzzsaw. It's good beer, it's just not as seamless as the nose suggested.

The body sits squarely in the moderate portion, weight-wise. It has a full plushness thanks to that glass filling carbonation that I mentioned earlier. It's nicely bittered on the backend through the swallow leading up to, and surpassing moderate. It's a taste bud destroyer, this beer.

Necron 99 doesn't fit into those world class beers that 3 Floyds brings to market. What it does do is fit into the wildly interesting, experimental hoppy beers that you usually find at the brewpub. It's vivid and bright with a ton of depth with perfectly dialed in carbonation. I've bought this beer in the past and I'll buy it again in the future.

Sweet and balanced IPA.Although this beer has really intense labeling and naming, it is actually a very pleasant and easy drink. Pours sorta cloudy and pretty dark yellow/orange considering it is an IPA. Pretty to look at, almost bronze with really nice lacing. Smell is very faint but pleasant. Fun and sweet which balances the hop character, which is mild, and the ABV, which is generous. Sweetness is not malty, rather it is almost fruity This is one of the IPAs out there that demonstrates the diversity of the style and is a great beer especially for people who aren't into IPAs or think they all taste the same.

I'm trying this at Pizza Parlor in the West Loop of Chicago. It poured a slight hazy orangish with white head that is leaving that is leaving a nice lace. The scent had touches of tropical fruit. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink but was on tje sweeter side. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a solid beer.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.
This beer pours out a orange golden hue. Has a perfect finger worth of off white/very light gold crown. Very dense and frothy. The crown stays around and even forms tighter.
The smell is stonefruit mixed with citrus. Piney as well.
The taste is the same as the smell but with a balanced malt backbone.
The mouthfeel is wet. I enjoy getting through the thick and creamy crown to the beer.
Overall, a good choice from FFF.

From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter. This rather nice ale pours a luminous
lightly cloudy amber with a decent head of white foam that settles to a
thick ring, thin wispy pool, and showcases some nice light lacing. Nose of
orange zest laden hops, moderate pine, mango notes, and a sweet caramel
malt backbone. Flavors hit the note with a sweet caramel malt belly balancing
the mango and orange zest notes into a balance with a moderate piney hop
flavor. Excellent mouth feel; medium full body, medium light carbonation,
and a sweet hop laden finish with nice balance.

Overall a winner

Cheers
