Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Three Floyds pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a somewhat hazy amber orange. Moderate amount of bubbles and a solid finger of off white head that settles into a thin creamy patch.

Smell: A crisp and juicy hop forward aroma with a scent of citrus fruit and pine. Upfront citrus hop scent of orange peel, mango, grapefruit, tangerine, passion fruit, and apricot with some pineapple. Earthy hop hints of pine and grass. Malt hints of caramel, cracker, and grains with yeast. A very nice aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a crisp and juicy taste with good notes of citrus fruit and pine. Juicy citrus hop notes of orange peel, mango, tangerine, grapefruit, apricot, and passion fruit along with some pineapple. Earthy hop notes of pine and grass. Background malt notes of caramel, cracker, and grains with some yeast. A pretty good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp, juicy, and very smooth.

Overall: A pretty good juicy IPA/Pale Ale. Not sure why it says Scotch ale on the bottle but this is a pretty nice smooth juicy ale.

A good friend of mine had this in their beer fridge during an open house party last weekend and a bottle was offered to me so I gladly accepted and gave it a nice pour to try it out.

This beer pours a pale amber hue that is slightly cloudy while being topped with a white, frothy head that dissipates slowly to a thin lacing that is retained. Carbonation is light in appearance. 3.75/5 The aroma is very sweet, almost too sweet. It comes across as a bit cloying even on the nose. Tropical fruits as well as a bit of peach and pear are prevalent but there seems to be a bit of candi sugar note as well as a very cloying caramel note that really adds to the sweetness of the fruits. There is definite balance in the aroma between the malt and the hops considering that it is hard to tell where the malt ends and the hops begin. 3.75/5 The flavor profile is very much like the aroma with a very cloying sweetness that makes the beer feel very heavy in the mouth. Caramelized sugar, mango, peach, pear, apricot, blood orange, and papaya all really come out strongly. As the beer warms, a bit of dates and raisins come through as well providing a very deep sugariness. As a previous reviewer noted, I can easily see a birthday cake note here too. The hops are very complex here and each flavor comes in waves. Bitterness is moderate but is balanced by the heavy sweetness. 4/5 This beer drinks much heavier than it actually is. Carbonation is light, allowing the beer to create a creamy and cloying mouthfeel without the typical dryness of an IPA. There is a hint of dryness but it is nothing of note and disappears on swallowing. 3.5/5 This is a very complex and well developed IPA that hits you with note after note of flavor and aroma. This is not my typical style of IPA but I did enjoy it. 3.75/5

22 ounce bottle, stamp is smudged but it looks like it says bottled on 2-6-17. Served in a Three Floyds pint glass, the beer pours a hazy amber/orange color with about an inch and a half off-white head that stuck around a while. There's also a lot of lacing. The brew smells like mango, berries, tropical fruit, melon and caramel malt. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some bready malt, pine hops and candied oranges noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's coating and smooth with a good amount of carbonation. Easy enough to drink. I thought it was a good brew, glad I picked up this one. But then it is Three Floyds, and more often than not you know it's going to be worth trying. $8.99 a bomber.

2-15-17 - On tap at Lone Wolf in Chicago. Served in a standard water glass with slight head. Clear orangish straw color. Fine taste, but didn't really overwhelm me (did have a second - full disclosure).

A - Hazy orange body, light white head, extensive lacing.

S - Nose is pine and resin, dank and marshmallow malts.

T - A straight hit of hops, lemon and pith, pine and resin. Malts are full and strong, which soothes the harsh bitter bite of the close.

M - Sticky, with strong carbonation and dry close.

O - A retro 3 Floyds IPA, spiky and sharp. Decent, a bit harsh, but well crafted.

Just didn't do it for me. Pours a copper color that looks great, and it smells like a hoppy 3 Floyds beer. I didn't taste much malt, and the hops up front tasted well, but there was a taste at the back-end that was kind of piney, but also kind of like sharp onions. It's not a bad beer - but not one I'd get again.

Aroma is fruit/berries, malts, mild spices and slightly perfumes. The flavor is fruit/berries, malts, mild smokiness and a mix of mild sweet/tart and low but there bitterness.

Poured from a bomber into a goblet.

L: Semi-opaque medium golden pour. 2 fingers of foamy white head. Great retention and lacing.

S: Rich malts... caramel and fruit. Pineapple, apricot, and citrus.

T/F: Caramel malts and bread. Great 3Floyds citrus/fruit hop profile. Loads of pineapple and mango... honey and peach. Citrus of course. Medium in body.

O: A delicious beer.... way more pale ale than Scottish. If you like 3Floyds then this will hit the spot.

I got home tonight and quickly poured this, a took a few good sized gulps before this weird feeling hit me. Something was wrong. I reviewed the bottle to confirm that it said scotch style ale, but upon review it says "scortch- style" which is a term unknown to me. The IPA hoppy goodness however is most certainly not missed here at all.

L: hazy gold amber under a lacy 2" cream colored cap with good retention

S: Rich grassy malt aromas rise from the glass joined by bread crust and bread crumb. There are definite caramel notes, tropical fruit, citrus, a faint hint of must and traces of sulfur.

T: Caramel and treacle flavored by tropical fruit and citrus lightly sweeten a malty palate with bread crumb and bread crust that leads to an assertive bitter finish

F: The beer is rich and very creamy creamy with a medium to medium full body and very soft medium low carbonation. There is mild alcohol warming.

O: The beer has a big malt presence but is well balanced by the hops resulting in a very drinkable, flavorful American IPA.

Bottled 07/06/17

Appearance - Pours hazy and golden orange in color with an off-white, finger width head.

Smell - Strong aroma of orange peel and caramel.

Taste - One-two combo punch of some citrus character met by an almost equal amount of deep caramel malt base. Citrus hits on notes of orange and grapefruit upfront, then gets a bit sweeter in the finish with a tangerine character that powers past the mid-taste that sees caramel take a brief hold of the reigns. Nice, balanced bittersweet finish, with lingering orange pith hanging around in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with fair carbonation. Slick, easy drinker with a smooth, refreshing finish.

Overall - A really nicely balanced IPA. Love that citrus/caramel combo. Maybe my favorite 3 Floyd's offering.
