650ml bottle, served in a snifter glass. Pours a slightly hazy golden-orange body, one finger white head, lots of retention, no lacing. Smell is grapefruit and citrus mixed in with sweet white wine character, a bit of oak. Sweet caramel. It definitely is a Dreadnaught base, and the hops haven't faded by any means. Flavour follows, a rich white vinous character, more of a dessert wine character than it would indicate on the nose, with big caramel and toffee notes tempered by grapefruit and citrus hop aromatics. The base malt of Dreadnaught works well with the barrel, and it's fairly well executed. It's not a beer I want too much of, but it's not bad. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, good carbonation, with white vinous character and a bit of caramel on the backend. Sweet, big and boozy, as you'd expect from a beer of its lineage and name.

On tap at Northdown. Clear orange body. Smells of intense wine, oak, citrusy hops, and alcohol. Tastes citrusy, sweet wine and oak. Pretty sweet and malty. Alcoholic with a bitter bite. Heavy. Intense, but tasty.

6/19/17 - On tap at Parlor Pizza in the West Loop of Chicago. Served in a short goblet. Tasty, hoppy, nice aromas. Muscat barrel aged. Good and smooth.

Bomber bottle poured into a fluted snifter.
Amber, bit of haze, but not too much. Thick foamy head settles into thick ring around the glass that leaves plenty of lacing.
Aroma is layered. First thing I got was grape juice. Then the IPA characteristics came through, citrus and earthy pine followed by earthy barrel and a bit of booze.
The flavor took on the booziness of the Muscat fortified wine a bit and barrel, made things complex and deep. Not a light sipper, more a drink slowly and let warm a bit brew. The hops and earthy pine were there, but behind the characteristics brought out by the barrel aging.
A bit oily on the palate, moderate carbonation and medium body.
Overall a complex and interesting brew. Took on many characteristics of the Muscat barrels and changed the base beer into something its own.

Tasted in a 9 oz snifter from draft at Consume on May 30, 2017. The barrel aging adds too much sweetness. I'm glad I tried it, but I probably will not have it again.
