Notes / Commercial Description:
This beer is brewed during the hop harvest with a portion of unkilned or “wet” hops fresh off the vine. Apricot in color, Broo Doo’s nose has dominant orange, pine sap and floral notes, balanced by a glazed nut and toffee malt body. This celebration of the hop harvest has intense tropical fruit, citrus and spicy accents that showcase the complexity of the hops we all love.

Pours golden amber in color with a thin light white frothy head that has good retention.

Smell is incredibly fruity. Notes of fresh kiwi and pineapple are fowward along with a bright sweet orange backbone and a sweet caramel malt. Smells like candy.

Taste is incredible. Really fresh citrus like hops are forward and followed by a rich resiny pine stickiness and mild bitterness. Malt adds a really great sweetness that compliments the juicy flavors, aromas and mild bitterness perfectly.

Mouthfeel is really good. High amounts of hop oils and resins give this a big sticky feel that is cut with moderate amounts of carbonation. Overall medium body and very drinkable.

Overall this is an awesome hop harvest ale, really vibrant hop flavors and aromas.

650ml bottle from the 2013 release, purchased at Local Option , shared with friends.

The beer pours a nice copper color, hues of apricot, gold and orange, slightly hazy but quite clear with a frothy, white head that rises two fingers high with very good retention and leaves some soapy lace behind. The aroma is really pleasant, bright, fresh citrus, bitter pine, crisp hop spice, very nice integration of some floral components before some sweet malt pokes through, very hop forward, very refreshing and very true to FFF's line of work. The flavors are right in queue, tropical fruit, pineapple really pops, lots of tangy citrus, wildflower is more potent on the tongue while the bitter pine is more of a supporting layer and the earthy hop spice leads right into the malt which helps to counterbalance the bitterness and provide some sweetness which helps the fruit flavors. The mouthfeel is nice, quite juicy with a little stickiness, the carbonation is right on the money, lively, perky yet smooth and finishes lightly dry.

Verdict: A really delicious Harvest Ale from Three Floyds, and a release I always look forward to. The balance is nice, hop profile is diverse and the bitterness is mild, perhaps it could use a bigger bite at the end, but this is a pretty spot on IPA.

Pours a hazy golden with a thick, white head. Good retention and outstanding lacing. Lots of tropical fruit and citrus on the nose with a faint dough aroma. Lots of grapefruit, mango, orange, and pine on the front of the tongue. Becomes increasingly bitter through the finish with faint hints of sweet caramel. Dry finish. Well balanced. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Overall, this might be the best wet-hop IPA out there!

A: A nice agressive pour into a 3F Teku produced a big 3 finger head. Mixed size bubbles in the head and as it slowly receeds it got the chunky honey comb look. Bright white and left behind a coat of lacing along the entire side of the glass. A golden yellow to soft orange color with a slight haze on the first pour.

S: Strong sustaining tropical fruit aroma on my first impression. Melons, oranges, pineapple and grapefruit hop aromas dominate the nose. A noticable fresh cut grass scent also. A touch of alcohol comes through. malt is is almost undetectable.

T: Oranges, pineapples and juicy grapefruit hop flavor on the first sip. the grassy character comes through in the taste but balances nicely with the round hop bitterness. Very flavorful and complicated. Malt is noticable in the way of biscuit and bread crust.

M: A stickey mouthfeel that i love. the body feels on the medium to moderate side but it might be the hop oils that gives the impression of bigger body. moderate carbonation makes the bitterness pop.

O: Im really enjoying this years harvest/wet hop beers. This one has the orangey, freshcut grass, round hops just like founders but with a bit more orange. Big fan.

Poured into my Samuel Smith's pint glass. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a two finger head that is dense as hell. A decent amount of lacing is left behind and a lot of carbonation is visible. A lot of citrusy notes, with orange being the most prominent, along with resiny hops and caramel. Taste is very resiny and bitter, but there is some sweetness in the middle to somewhat balance it. I'm not saying balance was needed, I'm saying it's a plus to the flavor. Long citrusy aftertaste on this one, and very easy to drink even though it's not very light.

Overall: This is an awesome hoppy beer.
