Way overrated. Not nearly enough coffee to cut through the sweetness. One of my least favorite variants from 2018. Trade or sell them while you can.

On draft at 3Floyds (couple of days after Dark Lord Day '18). This was A LOT better than the 2017 version. Pitch black with caramel colored foam around the edge of glass. Very viscous. Loads of coffee in the aroma. A very coffee forward beer. But, the vanilla is definitely there and it really rounds out the beer as you finish the sip and think about the aftertaste. Typical Dark Lord variant: big barrel and big sticky mouthfeel.

I never had the 2016 version, but this is way better than the 2017 and a good variant overall. So much coffee, I really liked it.

The aroma dramatically sets itself apart from Marshmallow Handjee this year, whereas last year it was fairly similar. The flavor is all coffee and chocolate too, and much less wine barrel, which many may feel is a good thing. I'm just happy to have a Dark Lord with a strong coffee presence. I've always wanted this and it paid off as tremendously as I'd expected. There's no dark fruits, no marshmallow, just all luscious mocha extreme.

The feel on this beer a bit less thick than last years, but still round, smooth and viscous.

This is the total mocha treatment I’d hoped FVM '17 would be. While I was apparently in the minority for enjoying 2017, 2018 is undeniably better. That said, you should definitely drink this fresh--I can't imagine this level of coffee holding up well for a long time.

L - Its a varient if Dark Lord. It obviously pours black as night.
S - Putting my face anywhere near this beer is like opening a fresh can of espresso with strong vanilla tones mixed in. Smells amazing.
T - Didnt expect the coffee to punch me in the face the way it did. This thing should definately be called espressio militia or something to that effect. It was like taking a big mouthful of ground coffee but in a good way. I have legitimately had coffees that packed less coffee flavor than this beer. The vanilla is still there and still strong, but its just not the star of the show. Booze on the backend ensures it goes down warm. This is absolutely a world class beer.
F - Not as thick as I expect from dark lord. Far thinner than the base 2018 beer. Still nice and smooth.

O - I dont believe prior to this I have ever given out a 5 in any category, and this beer just got 2 of them. based on the ratings im seeing not everyone liked this beer as much as I did, but it is amazing. This beer has become the beer by which all other stouts will be judged. This is legitimately the first hyped up beer that I have tried that lived up to and surpassed the hype.
