Honestly, this was much better than I expected. Not quite as thick as I typically like my (especially) barrel-aged barleywines, but very tasty. Whatever barrels FFF uses give the beer almost an apple cider-like taste, and the fruitiness of the barleywine plays well with that. As someone who isn't a huge barleywine fan, I thought this was a nice change of pace.

I certainly wouldn't pay what FFF charges for a bottle (I think somewhere in the $30 range), but for something I was ready to write off as "another overhyped FFF beer," this is good stuff.

Pours a dark red with a thin, tan head and lots of lacing. Smells of sweet malt.
Lots of malt, Carmel, some hop which creates one of the smoothest beers I've had. A light medium mouthfeel. Keep on trucking FFF!

Appearance - The beer was tan in appearance with little noted head.

Smell - The beer had a malty nose with little in the way of barrel aging noted.

Taste - The booze comes to the front. It is boozy, but a little spicy. Cinnamon and clove can be observed. As a whole, the beer can be described as leathery, with some vanilla notes. The aftertaste has an oaky presence that accompanies the booze.

Mouthfeel - For the style, it is thinner than I might expect. The regular edition behemoth has more staying power.

Overall - For the price, there are better BA barleywines available.
