Shared by Austin as a vertical from 05 - 15. This was the 2012 BA version which stood out as a deeper and darker cousin compared to the non-barrel aged brothers. Intense, deep and delightful.

My personal favorite beer.

2017 Old Forester edition bottle poured into Dark Lord mini snifters. Wax cut through and opened with 3 Floyds super metal battle axe opener.

A: Opaque deep brown. Looks like muddy water in the best way. Light mustard brown head to match.

S: Punch in the face of bourbon, toffee, bourbon, bourbon, green apple.

T: Bittersweet green apple off initial pull. Assault of hops and bourbon fondle the tongues balls before penetrating the taste buds through and through. Your tongue feels dirty afterward but as you try to clean it off, you're hit with levels of hops and bourbon over and over. So much depth here. So much flavor that refuses to be subdued without a fight. Finishes dry with significant heat.

F: Silky smooth. Creamy and sticky also. Coats the cheeks and tongues in sharp bourbon bliss and excites the taste buds enough to open them up for onslaught of boozy goodness. Bites your cheeks with hops and warms the soul with bourbon heat.

O: I personally can't get enough. The bourbon is sharp and in your face. The malts and hops come up big. If you like big barrel presence then this is the bottle. Unconditional love for this thing

Honestly, this was much better than I expected. Not quite as thick as I typically like my (especially) barrel-aged barleywines, but very tasty. Whatever barrels FFF uses give the beer almost an apple cider-like taste, and the fruitiness of the barleywine plays well with that. As someone who isn't a huge barleywine fan, I thought this was a nice change of pace.

I certainly wouldn't pay what FFF charges for a bottle (I think somewhere in the $30 range), but for something I was ready to write off as "another overhyped FFF beer," this is good stuff.
