650ml bottle, dated 3.17.2015, poured into a Three Floyds Alpha King pint glass.

The beer pours a light amber color, hues of copper, hazy and cloudy with faint clarity when struck by the light, a thick, foamy, finger of off white head head that has great retention and yields a fine amount of spotted head. The aroma is pleasant, dark malts, piney hops, very bitter, a little nutty, biscuity grain, simple, but substantial. The flavors echo the nose, bitter piney nose, english malts, biscuity grain, again, has a bit of that pleasant nutty flavor, soft toffee and gentle nougat. The mouthfeel is nice, coating, zippy and crisp, carbonation is medium to high, lightly prickly but the finish is easy and light.

Verdict: A very nice ESB from Three Floyds, pleasantly bitter and big. Lots of malt, plenty of underlying hops, a nice balance is struck. I appreciate that the traditional malty ESB backbone is still in the forefront when it comes to a Three Floyds beer, perhaps one of their least "not normal" beers, but it makes this a success.

22 oz brown bomber with a stunning label. It's the best one I've seen from 3f. The Lord Admiral gracing the front done completely fff style. I see lots of awesomeness in thus artwork. It's like steampunk, the admiral and fff all wrapped in one. Bad Ass! Poured into a Nonic pint glass.

A - deep and dark amber color that does lighten up in the light with a hint of golden highlights. Slightly hazy. Off white head pours with great size and settles brilliantly leaving a sturdy ring of lacing that leaves lots of stick to the glass.

S - this aroma is where malt meets hops and blends themselves in a wild supernatural party. The English style biscuit malt backbone let's the hops do their best to blast through its sweet wall, but constantly being held in check and only add to its sweet character. Biscuit malt, apricot, floral, hints of citrus, and butterscotch are the main whiffs I get.

T - flows hand in hand with the aroma. A lovely sweet English and biscuit malt character with apricot and mild citrus. Floral and mild pine hops provide lovely spice notes to the malt base. A lovely complexity going on inside Lord Admiral.

M - this is medium bodied and a mouth coating gem. It's texture and thickness is an example of FFF at their best. Smooth, flavorful, and down right scary good. Highly drinkable ESB and on another planet in terms of creativity and class.

O - Lord Rear Admiral is hands down the greatest ESB in the world. It combines brewing talent and creativity in a bottle and provides a lovely experience. I have a soft spot for the English esb style and this just blows it wide open. So tasty and thick. I was excited to see bottles heading my way, so I hope to get more in the future. If I could pick a beer to drink every day with any meal it would be this one. A complex yet balanced masterpiece from Three Floyds.
