Thank God for bottles shares! Only way I would have been able to try this one. Pours viscous jet black, no head. Smell has some whiskey barrel, but more wood than booze, huge coconut, belgian chocolate, and vanilla, with the trademark indian sugar on the backend of each sniff. Taste is paradox with barrel being present but not overwhelmingly so, empowering the coconut instead to be the new addition that is most potent, goes perfectly with the dark lord vanilla, molasses, dark fruit, sugar, chocolate, and coffee, while at the same time causing the taste to still have a pretty simple complexion overall, though delicious. Feel is thick, viscous, but not as sweet as expected, and a touch dryer, though still a little syrupy.

Thick! Granted, the base beer is plenty thick, but Loadstar tastes even thicker and richer. The coconut is very present in the nose and in the taste, adding some much needed complexity to that one-note sweetness of the base. Not a ton of barrel, but it's smooth as can be.

Zero complaints. Excellent. Wish I'd scored a bottle.

At first it's roasty yet sweet, chocolatey and viscous, with only a mild touch of sweet coconut frosting. It actually has a lighter cola-feel at times with a pink champagne-like character from the wine barrel, but it's still relatively thick as the carbonation tries to push through a cocoa dusted date exhale. But then comes the Mounds as it warms, and OMG, this is a keeper! The coconut chocolate candy bar surfacing is not a punch of pastry stout in your face, but it's just enjoyably present.

Dude, this was an amazing DL variant. Last year I was hoping for a bottle of Handjee, Got it.
This year I was hoping for a load star or RRari crochet. Scored both. Cellar currently has 2018 Handjee & FVM, 2019 Chem trail Mix, Load star & Rrari Crochet. Son in law scored a Rrari as well. Tried CTM, FVM, BBDL, Rrari and Load Star at DLD.
Regular DL is good. The variants are at a completely different level. Freaking Amazing. Worth the rain, lightning, and sloppy conditions. Can't wait until next year!

draft pour at Dark Lord Day. typical thick black motor oil Dark Lord look but with tons of little coconut floaties on top. kind of a distinct look since all other pours of Dark Lord look virtually identical. smells of Dark Lord sweetness & roast with fresh coconut mixed in. i also get some barrel notes which i think are more whiskey forward than wine. whatever it is, it works. taste gives you the toasted coconut meshed with barrel-aged Dark Lord (do barrel notes with a toned down sweetness from the aging). feel is typical Dark Lord thickness. overall, an excellent new variant. it’s not as sweet as i would have originally pegged it for. really tasty stuff.
