Pours a reddish tinged brown with a soapy tan head that flees the premises pretty much immediately. Tart cherry aromas on the nose and especially on the taste, but not cloyingly so. Very refreshing on a warm summer day.

Fizzy head quickly fades; perfectly in line with the style. Body is a deep reddish-brown.

Nose is fairly classic Flemish red, perhaps a touch less sour, and a bit sweeter from the cherries. Vinegar, oak, tannins, and cherries, along with just a touch of caramel.

Bitingly sour and tart on the palate; immediately puckering up front, and it doesn't let off. The cherries are a nice complement. Mostly vinegar and tannins, along with lovely cherry notes. Doesn't have the depth or funkiness of a more traditional Flemish red ale, but has plenty of punch.

12 ounce bottle into a tulip glass. Bottled 9/20/20, had 10/20/20.

Pours a brownish red color, mostly clear, with a half inch foamy head and a decent amount of foamy lacing. Smells a little sour and tart. Aromas of cherries, malt, oak, some brown sugar, some red wine, light caramel and vinegar. The flavor shows a good amount of sourness and light tartness, with a low level of acidity. Flavors of cherries, malt, oak, some caramel, light red wine and cranberries, light brown sugar. Tastes a little peppery. Smooth, a good medium body, well carbonated.

Definitely cherry forward, but it works well for this. Pretty on point for the style. Lots of good aromas and flavors. Very enjoyable.

Dark ruby color with a small pink head that recedes quickly leaving no head.

Vinegar, tannins and cherry on the nose and palate. No burn when swallowed.

Low, prickly carbonation.

A really enjoyable sour from 3 Floyds. Pricey but worth it. Recommended.

Foggy burnt red with a short but fluffy off-white head that settles to a thin blanket that's thicker around the edges.

An airy froth delivers flavors of cherry cola with buttery white wine and white oak before coming to a sticky yet dry finish that brings out black pepper, but also Kool-Aid!

This is a lot better than many of the half-assed attempts at playful sours coming out these days, but it's quite a teeter-totter.

Taking the highly traditional, highly classic Flanders styled red ale and completely turning it on its head, Three Floyds Brewing puts their unique American spin on the style for an update to a taste of history.

Rusty maroon in its pour, the moderately frothy Canus Invertus (Cherry) shares a cherry rich scent through its broken foam and teases the nose with promises of strong red wine, cider, oak and a piquant tingle of tartness. A suggestion of cherry pastries come to mind with the first sip along with hard candy, taffy and a general toasted savory flavor.

As the flavors develop, the taste of black cherry intensifies and quickly leads the pack of flavors past a cidery taste of red apple, rhubarb and cranberry and into the world of burgundy wine. As its moderate sweetness recedes, its tartness is strong of lime, lemon and sour grape. Shy of the balsamic character of traditional Flemish ale, a cleaner, sharper and more peppery acidic bite grips the late palate.

Medium bodied and much more simplified than the toastier, nuttier and more oaken flavors of the classics, This cherry red ale leads down a cherry heavy finish with a prickle of acetone in a medium length and warming aftertaste. Canus Invertus in its cherry form has much more in common with a generic American Wild Ale than it does Flanders Red Ale.
