Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.00%

Availability: Summer

Notes / Commercial Description:
9.5-11.0% ABV, 100 IBUs - This complex double India pale ale has an intense citrus and floral hop aroma balanced by a velvety malt body which has been augmented with lactose milk sugar. With this different take on an IPA we have brewed an ale that is both pleasing to drink and, once again, “not normal.” Cheers! June release.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Three Floyds pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a hazy amber orange. Moderate amount of bubbles and a solid finger of off white head that settles into a thin creamy layer.

Smell: A very juicy and earthy hop driven aroma with a scent of citrus and pine. Upfront citrus hop scent of orange peel, grapefruit, mango, tangerine, papaya, and apricot along with pineapple. Earthy hop scent of pine and grass. Malt hints of caramel, grains, and cracker along with some yeast. Sweet hints of lactose. A very good aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a juicy and earthy taste with notes of citrus and pine. Citrus hop notes of grapefruit, orange peel, mango, apricot, tangerine, and papaya along with pineapple. Earthy hop notes of pine and grass. Malt notes of caramel, cracker, and grains with yeast. Some sweet notes of lactose sugar. A very good juicy taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy and fairly creamy. 11% is hidden very well.

Overall: A very good Double IPA. Good juicy citrus flavor. The lactose adds a nice touch.

L: A peach apricot color, slight off white lacing of head, not big or thick

S: Piney hops, smells thicker with a heaviness to it, hints of mango

T: Peppery, flowery, apricot, mellow taste not bursting, sweeter than your normal IPA with a rich sweet pine finish

F: A full bodied beer that has a thick protein feel to it

O: Overall this beer is above average. I got it as a gift and would have again if on tap not sure I'd buy a bottle of this though.

Bottled 6/17/2017, poured into tulip glass.
Pours soft orange with red highlights. One finger head leaves good lacing. Clementines, honey, sweet grapefruit on the nose. Tropical fruit, mango, papaya, some bitter grapefruit pith, honey sweetness. Slick, velvety body. The light carbonation and mouthfeel work perfectly together. Overall, it's a little sweet, I'd prefer more bitterness. Still very enjoyable.

Had on tap. Pours hazy, orange brown in color with minimal head. Taste is orange, mango, light lactose, and grapefruit. Heavy bodied, low carbonation, and slightly bitter. Nice and juicy. Makes for an excellent sipper. May be my favorite from the brewery.

22 ounce bottle into signature teku glass, bottled on 6/15/2017. Pours slightly hazy golden amber/light orange color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, melon, papaya, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, honey, light caramel, lightly toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops, lactose, and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, melon, papaya, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, honey, light caramel, lightly toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, melon, papaya, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, honey, light caramel, lightly toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops, lactose, and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy/sticky, and lightly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.6%. Overall this is an incredible DIPA! All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops, lactose, and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the balanced bitter/drying finish. Very vibrant, juicy, and lightly dank hops; great malt balance, without being overly sweet or heavy feeling. Feels like a slightly sweeter Dreadnaught. Very similar on hop profile and bitterness. A highly enjoyable offering.

Incredible beer. The hops and the sweetness balance each other perfectly and the hint of milk is amazing.
