Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.00%

Availability: Summer

Notes / Commercial Description:
9.5-11.0% ABV, 100 IBUs - This complex double India pale ale has an intense citrus and floral hop aroma balanced by a velvety malt body which has been augmented with lactose milk sugar. With this different take on an IPA we have brewed an ale that is both pleasing to drink and, once again, “not normal.” Cheers! June release.

Pours hazy golden in color with a 2 finger white head that has awesome retention.

Nose has mild citrus notes with a small straw malt backbone.

Taste follows the nose. Lots of straw malt start with it slowly fading to piney slightly citrusy hop presence not a whole lot of bitterness. Really tasty

Mouthfeel has a really nice creamy body from the lactose and higher small bubble carbonation. Very pleasant.

Appearance-
Cloudy orange, with a hint towards redness. Thin white head.

Smell-
Strong, not overbearing, hop presence that comes across as refreshing (like smelling lemon juice). The hop smell is a mixture of floral, citrus, and fruit. A very demure malt smell.

Taste-
Starts with citrus hops, moves to the sweet, then before the bitter hop bit comes in it is almost a tea quality. This nebulous tea taste does seem to come from the shift of flavors to the bitter, and it is fantastic. It ends like a bitter IPA, like all Stone beers.

Mouthfeel-
The hoppiness can coat your mouth pretty well, but the bitter makes it feel clean. Very refreshing on a warm day.

Overall-
This kind of strikes me as a fraternal twin to Permanent Funeral, which has more sweet malt IIPA quality, where this one has a hop citrus bitter IIPA quality. Both fantastic, and excellent entry from FFF.

Served out of a 22oz Bottle, No bottle on date.
Received in a trade, thank you jampics2.

A: Burnt orange, lots of cascading bubbles. Tight, slightly off white head.
S: Slightly yeasty, sweet a little bit of citrus. Very muted smell on this one.
T: Malty sweetness up front finished off with some pine resin. Not what I would consider a juicy DIPA. The alcohol was completely hidden.
M: The carbonation helps to coat your mouth in bitter, sticky, resinous glory. Full bodied that finished very dry.
O: My first thought was this tasted like a bigger, fuller version of Bell's Two Hearted. I had this at slightly below cellar temp. Next time I'll start it off a bit colder and see where the flavors go from there as it warms.

Appearance - Deep, hazy tangerine color. 2 fingers of thick foam head. Great retention. Thick lacing.

Smell - Citrus, bread, slight herbal note

Taste - Weird. Probably the first FFF brew I can say right off the bat that I don't care too much for. Citrus and pine hop note up front is quickly overwhelmed by the malt and lactose. Odd aftertaste. Slight alcohol bite.

Mouthfeel - Med/heavy body, acidic, high carbonation, wet sticky finish.

Overall - Probably the most overrated FFF brew I've tried to date. Not bad, but not great either. Disappointed at what I spent on this bomber. So many great brews available for much less, even from FFF! Zombie or Alpha King 6 pack >>>>>>> Apocalypse Cow bomber, all the same price. Will pass on this next time. On the bright side, at 10-11% ABV, it gives you a nice buzz very quickly.
