Apocalypse CowApocalypse Cow

Brewed by:
3 Floyds Brewing Co.
Indiana, United States

Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.00%

Availability: Summer

Notes / Commercial Description:
9.5-11.0% ABV, 100 IBUs - This complex double India pale ale has an intense citrus and floral hop aroma balanced by a velvety malt body which has been augmented with lactose milk sugar. With this different take on an IPA we have brewed an ale that is both pleasing to drink and, once again, “not normal.” Cheers! June release.

22oz bomber in a stemmed tulip glass.

A- Poured a bright and cheery golden orange color. A nice big white head never quite vanished yet left behind lots of sticky lacing.

S- Citrus hops and alcohol dominate the smell. There are some bready sweet malt and floral and piney aromas, too.

T-Lots of malt, lots of citrus. It's sweet, but there's balance thanks to 100 ibus.

M- Full and chewy. Boozy sweetness. Finishes clean and dry with a hop bite.

O- It's a big beer. Big on hops, malts, abv, and taste.

bomber into a Teku
No bottling dates (come on Three Floyd's)

Thanks to Billakowski for sending this one over in a trade.

A: Pours an apricot orange that's hazy to the point of being opaque. 2 plus fingers width of slightly off white head builds and has good retention. Leaves lots of segmental rings of lacing.

S: Sweet malts, doughy almost yeasty, citrus in the form of lemon-lime and orange. Not really any pine/resinous/floral hop notes, and certainly malt forward (may be past its prime), but nice. As it warms the citrus notes build, and even some mango like tropical fruit aromas come out.

T: Hop presence bigger in the taste. Lots of piney and citrus rind bitterness. Some bready malts. Lactose noticeable on the finish, which is interesting but I'm not sure if it enhances the flair, or detracts from it. Bitterness builds to the point that it becomes pretty one dimensional throughout the majority of the drink.

M/D: Full bodied, moderate carbonation, ABV is exceptionally well masked. Dangerously drinkable for a double digit ABV beer.

O: Well above average but nothing spectacular. I'd certainly drink again if available, but its not and I don't plan to seek out another bottle.
