Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.00%

Availability: Summer

Notes / Commercial Description:
9.5-11.0% ABV, 100 IBUs - This complex double India pale ale has an intense citrus and floral hop aroma balanced by a velvety malt body which has been augmented with lactose milk sugar. With this different take on an IPA we have brewed an ale that is both pleasing to drink and, once again, “not normal.” Cheers! June release.

A - Pours a mostly clear and light amber with a solid 2 finger cap on top. Retains very well and never quite vanishes.

S - Tangy dull citrus, yeasty bread, a mix of stone fruit and mango, smells sweet. Solid hops come to the forefront once warmed up a bit.

T - A multitude of citrus, tangerine, orange, mandarin, some lemon, sharp and zesty. Spicy floral jumps out in the middle along with a white bread malt backing and sweet caramel. The malt is sweet and hefty but lighter. (If that makes any sense) Mango comes in the mix along with a notes of pine that increases with bitterness toward the finish. Citrus oil is left on the aftertaste.

M - Medium bodied but seemed hefty, moderate carbonation, very soft and creamy feel, dry finish.

Great hops with a hefty but light malt backing. I liked the spiciness and it carried well with the all around citrus profile. Great mouthfeel as it tricks your palate trying to decide if it's full or light. Glad I got my hands on one of these.

A-slightly hazy golden color with a hint of orange, nice off-white head and decnt lacing

S-sweet malt, citrus, orange, pine, slight herbal

T-citrus, pine, sweet caramel malt, herbal, moderate bitter finish

F-medium body with moderate carbonation, crisp and smooth

O-a good DIPA but a little on the sweet malty side for me

Thanks to krl2112 for sending this one! Reviewed from notes. Poured from bomber into a Westbrook pint glass.

A: Hazy deep gold with a big white head and lots of streams of visible carbonation.

S: Citrus, resinous pine, and floral hops, with a bit of underlying cracker malt sweetness.

T: Citrus, resin, grassy and floral hop flavors atop the biscuit malt backbone with just a touch of caramel flavors. Then right before the swallow (when you expect more bitter to take hold) there's a sweetness instead - here's the lactose presence. The hang is a light citrus rind bitter - probably the least bitter I've ever had in a DIPA.

M: Good carbonation, but still a somewhat creamy mouthfeel from the lactose. Fairly low alcohol presence for the listed ABV - although every so often, a sip will seem significantly more boozy.

O: This one is ok. I'm just not digging the lactose in a DIPA - the juxtaposition of the sweet creamy and the bitter citrus doesn't work for me as well as I thought it might. I enjoyed the beer, but I likely won't be having another.
