L (4) - Nice copper colored beer. A bit hazier than it should be, but a good amount of cream colored foam.
S (4.5) - Smells great! I've never one to get much citrus smells from beers, but I got some of that here.
T (4.75) - Fantastic! Big maltiness with big hop to balance. I get a small honey aftertaste which works oh-so-well.
F (4.25) - Easy to drink. Seems to be carbed about right. Not much alcohol burn or anything.
O (4.5) - Overall I loved this beer! Exactly what I look for in a IIPA. It's not just an IPA with more hops. I wish I could get this locally

22 oz bomber, tulip

A – Slightly hazy gold to orange, pours with a nice ½ inch-plus head that dissipates slowly. Good amount of bubbles stay on the top.

S – Tons and tons of grapefruit, lemon, maybe some mango or papaya. Very much American hop character. Warms up to release some pine, and some orange to match the color.

T – Extremely hop forward and bitter, but balanced well by the malt and the related carbonation. This beer is as much about the aroma as the flavor, with the aroma really contributing to the taste experience. On the finish more of the lemon is present, with some grassy, piney notes.

M – Lots of carbonation to balance with the bitterness. This is definitely a very bitter IPA, but it remains very well balanced. Not much bitterness on the aftertaste as its washed away with the bubbles. Leaves me refreshed, looking forward to the next sip.

O – Not my first time drinking this beer so I came in knowing what to expect: tons of flavor, tons of hops, great smells, great taste. This is such a fantastic beer that I hate to drink what I’ve got, knowing it will be awhile before I get my hands on more.

Poured from a 22oz bomber into a goblet glass. Assuming its fresh since I acquired from my visit to the 3 Floyds brewpub a couple of days ago. Pours a cloudy orange with a thin, white sheet of head. About half of a finger.

As soon I cracked it open, I got a strong smell of citrus-like hops. I'm loving this so far. Strong citrus note, specifically grapefruit.

The taste has a slight malty-ness. Seems like its there so you don't rip your tongue off from the hop profile. This is followed by a huge and very enjoyable bite of hops. Strong grapefruit-like bitterness. Bitterness stay just for a moment. As it warms, im getting tropical fruit notes; Like a pineapple tart/sweetness.

100 IBU, 9% ABV (both numbers according to the 3 Floyds brewpub menu) and its very drinkable. I didn't even notice i was more than half way through the bomber until i started feeling a little light headed. Like the label describes it, I would say medium bodies.

Overall, an excellent double IPA! I'm reviewing this from the bomber bottle but ive had this once before on tap at 3 Floyds Brewpub and trust me, it only gets better! 3F there balance out the window and just hopped the hell out of this. Recommend for 3 Floyds fans and hop heads!

Beautiful color n the border of golden and amber. Beautiful lacey head that quickly dissipates.

Citrusey and piney nose.

Appropriate and very nice bitterness at the front. Subtle maltiness that belies the 9 % ABV.
Don't taste the expected caramel. Always think a 9% beer that tastes like this is dangerous. Too easy to drink!

Finish as expected for DIPA. Big hoppy bitterness.

Superb beer to my taste. Sad the cask will not last long.

Consumed 11/18/10 fresh shipment, so I don't have to worry about no bottling date.

Poured into Sam Adams perfect pint glass

A: My favorite DIPA color. Hazy, sunshine yellow. Super bright and cheerful, little do I know what waits under the surface. A thick, frothy off-white head hugs the inside of the glass, leaving a sticky mess upon finishing.

S: I could smell hops when I opened the bottle, and when I poured it into my glass. A barrage of peaches, white grapes, oranges, and juicy grapefruit smack your olfactory nerves. Resin and pine sit in the background, and a tiny sweet whiff of malt is hiding under the bleachers in this heavy hitter hop game.

T: Sticky, resinous hops kick you to the ground and make you feel insignificant, but then a sugar cookie malt finish picks you up and soothes you, only to drop you on your head again on the next sip. Massive grapefruit and lemon chunks abound. Beautiful.

F: Medium, and a bit oily on the tongue, but hops kick in for a dry, bitter, lingering finish.

D: Undeniable palate wrecker, but I'm a masochist for this sweet punishment. I will get another bomber before they're gone.

22oz bottle courtesy of goodstrongbeer, who hooked me up with just the thing. served in a standard pint glass.

A - pours with about half an inch of frothy tight off-white colored foam. the beer is bright gold in color with some hop haze. light spotty lacing left behind.

S - very strong. fresh tropical pineapple, mango, candied oranges. joined near the end by some bittering piney hops. light layer of sweet caramel underneath, but this is all about fruity hops. cant express enough how good this smells.

T - quick flash of the fruity tropical hops before turning into a massive bittering hop bomb, focusing on fresh wet pine needles and grassy hops. mellows out with more melon and some honey malts, with a light burning alcohol. yummy.

M - thick syrupy body (almost to a fault) but nice tight active carbonation cuts through and deploys the wonderful flavors to all corners of the mouth. finishes with strong lingering piney hops and lightly sweet tropical fruits.

D - incredible beer here. excellent aroma with an attention grabbing transition from fruity hops to insanely bitter pine-monster. not much I would improve here.

Pours a bright gold/orange with a small white head that fades into oblivion.

Smells of tropical fruits and a little sweetness. Maybe a touch of honey.

A palate wrecker if there ever was. Starts out with an intense grapefruit bitterness balanced well with a good malt backbone. A touch of sweetness in the middle rounding into a delicious piney hop bitterness in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation levels.

This is every bit the equal of Dreadnaught and a great addition to the 3F lineup. Drink this one fresh though. Fresh bottles and off draft are some of the best beers I've had, but more than a few weeks old and it loses a ton of its great flavors.

Want to thank merlin48 for this bottle, dedicate this one to my sweet dog Belle that just pasted.

Pours a lightly hazy peach color with a big frothy off white head that falls slow and laces well.

Aroma is damn hops fill my nose as soon as cap is popped a great sign. Very wonderful citrus hop aromas fresh oranges, pineapple, red grapefruit all mingled with a sprinkle of fresh pine needles. Some light malt sweetness underneath it all, just enough to hold the hops not much more.

Taste is juicy fruit grapefruits, orange pineapple just like the nose nice and chewy just like juicy fruit. Very tasty hop forward I2PA with enough malt to hold all the hops. Finish is linger citrus fruits along with pine notes.

Mouthfeel is medium body with lightly peppy carbonation.

Overall very tasty brew very nice aroma, that carries over to the taste. I wonderful example of a great style, but then again FFF knows how to make a good I2PA.

Thanks deuce27 for sharing.

So I can't really comment on the color as god forbid we shared a bomber poured into 10-oz Lord Fletcher's plastic tumblers with little more than a campfire for ambient lighting. The Wolf she did kick up an angry head as if in protest to the plastic. Retention was positive with definite lacing.

But then there was the nose. It's one of those magical DIPA aromas that you wish your wife would wear instead of Chanel no. 5. A luscious.. Citrus and pine and bury your nose in the pineapples, mangos and apricots type. Marvelous.

Taste is as good as any world class DIPA. Immediately bitter with pines, grapefruit pith assaulting the palate in true hop bomb fashion yet restrained with that tropical tangerine dream goodness borrowed from the nose, malt coming in late to balance and subdue leaving a clean, lingering, trace of bitterness, ever so slightly warming finish.

The body is just about exactly as medium as they come, it holds together so well on the tongue without being cloying or too sticky.

Overall? I would most certainly not be able to stop myself from drinking this until the supply was exhausted or I passed stone cold out. At 9 something ABV the latter would come quickly..

The beer comes in a hazy orange yellow color with a fluffy 2 finger head.

The aroma has orange, mango, pine, apricot, grass.

The flavor is huge on this malty mouthfeel, which is immediately noticeable, then there’s some grapefruit, apricot, tropical fruits, and pineapple. The hop fruit profile is actually a bit hard to put a finger one. A huge strong pine bitterness just smacks you though after a few seconds. It really is strong, but also enjoyable.

The mouthfeel is so big that it is almost stout like. It’s a very big feel, but also drinkable because of the bitterness that cleans up the beer.

This is a really strong and fantastic DIPA.

Beautiful hazy, golden-orange with a big, fluffy, soapy, sticky bright white head that leaves behind tons of lacing and great retention. Gorgeous DIPA. The nose explodes with massive hop aromas. Citrus such as fresh grapefruit, orange, and apricot. This is a serious fresh hop, pine, and citrus bomb. Great body. Seriously. So creamy and smooth. Feels fantastic and the flavors are absurd. This has so much complexity for being such a hop bomb. The IBUs are off the charts but the hop character is so enjoyable. There some booze, some really dry qualities, and a bit of cloying sweetness, but outside of that it's a flawless beer. Wow.

Straw gold ale that looks deceptively light in the glass with a fluffy pure white head. Clear the head is the snow covered Artic portion of the name of this Imperial IPA. Two ways to go big with hops--extremely big on top of extremely big, and big on top of lighter; this beer is the latter. Gives the beer a massive hop nose, bigger than most Imperial India Pale Ales. Very clean and singular grapefruit in the nose with a very subordinate malt base with a bit of pepper, pine and hotness from the 9% alcohol. Soft bready malt on the tongue--and--there's the bite. Feeds the hop beast extremely well. Hops linger nicely and burns out the palete. From the website, FFF says "Scorched earth is our brewery policy". This beer proves it.

Brought this bottle back from the FFF brewpub in Munster on our now yearly trek to see our Boilermaker niece Amanda at Purdue. Very glad to have Three Floyds en route to a regular.

poured from 22oz bottle into a snifter.

A: Nice deep orange with about 1 finger white head. Head dissipated quickly.

S: lots of sweet orange and grapefruit/sweet fruits.

T: you get sweet citrus, similar to orange juice upfront. Some really sweet maltiness followed with a lingering bitterness on the back of the tongue.

good beer way more balanced then I expected it to be. Great beer.
