Our latest barrel-aged imperial stout hails from a battle-filled planet from the furthest reaches of the galaxy. Weighing in at a hefty 15.6% ABV, Cocomungo was aged with toasted coconut and maple syrup after spending a year in Willett bourbon barrels. Expect layered flavors of maple syrup, toasted coconut and rich chocolate backed by whiskey and oak notes from the barrel-aging process.

Looked great in the snifter. Dark with a nice brown head. Smelling the bourbon up front as it's aged for over a year at 3 Floyds. Some coconut coming thru. Even though this is from 2022. Mouthfeel is thick and stays on the tongue for awhile. Lovely. Top notch BBA Stout.

Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz bottle poured into my stemless tulip sample glass. Bottle doesnt have a date stamp. Its been in my cellar for about two years.
The beer pours a dark black coffee color with no light passing through the glass. A tan fizzy head of .5 cm foams up and fades away to nothing very quickly. I didnt even get a photo taken before the foam was gone after the pour.
Aroma is dark chocolate, bourbon notes, some molasses and a hint of toasted coconut note. Not really any booziness. And no hops anywhere.
First sip reveals a medium body with mild and fine carbonation. Some silky texture but also a bit of coating on my palate when I take a sip.
Flavor is roasted malts and dark chocolate with good amounts of bourbon and hints of coconut. I never really get any booziness, which is scary for 15.6%!! No hops either. This is a solid big imperial stout. I do wonder if the coconut is more prevalent on a fresher bottle.

Cocomungo pours a pitch-black color, with no head. The aroma is very sweet, with lots of maples. The flavor is sweeter, with big bourbon notes, lots of sweet maples, and a nice, sweet toasted coconut finish. Good feel. Overall, fantastic stout, sweeter, and sugary than others.

This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like bittersweet dark maple, toasted coconut, rich roasty coffee (there’s no coffee in there, but the coffee aroma is still somehow very enticing), roasted malt, and oak.
This is wildly good, especially for something just on the shelf these days. There’s a lot of barrel here – bourbon, caramel, vanilla, and oak. The barrel melds well with the pleasant sweetness of the toasted coconut and the slightly earthy but decadent maple flavors. It’s extremely well balanced, especially for something over 15%.
This is thick, creamy, and rich, with basically no booziness, which is super impressive, given the ABV.
This is better than some BA Dark Lords I’ve had. This was really tasty.

Pours very dark chocolate with little to no head. Aroma is wood and coconut, with a hint of chocolate. Ok, perhaps more than a hint -- there's a good bit of chocolate in the aroma. Taste is solid, well balanced, very chocolate with only a hint of coconut. ABV is well controlled. This is a solid, go to barrel aged stout.

Pitch black with just a little bit of brown on the edges
Aroma is all booze and bourbon
Up front on the taste is a touch of the coconut. Immediately after my palate is hijacked by pure alcohol and boozy sugar. The aftertaste is all alcohol all the time. My tastebuds are trying to grasp onto some coconut or other barrel character but there's nothing more to be found.
Mouthfeel is full like a big BA stout should be. Drinkability is tough due to all that alcohol clinging to every corner of your mouth.
Overall this is a mess. Too much booze and sugar. It goes beyond a big, Wilfred Brimley, Diabeetus stout and just clogs your senses with sugar and burning alcohol. No bueno.

12 ounce bottle into a snifter. 2022 edition, had 6/18/22.
Pours near black and opaque, with a quarter inch quickly dissipating head and no lacing. Aromas of coconut, roasted malt, chocolate, oak, some char, light maple, light bourbon. Flavors of roasted malt, coconut, bourbon, chocolate, light maple. Smooth, a very good full body, appropriately carbonated.
Focused and intense. The coconut is certainly prominent. Less barrel than expected, but they show pretty well when it’s fully warmed. Would definitely purchase this again.

12 ounce bottle, no dating I noticed on it. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head that stuck around for a bit. Small amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like vanilla, coconut, bourbon, dark chocolate, caramel and some roasted malt. Taste is similar to the aroma, with the addition of some molasses, oak, and dark bready flavors. Wish the coconut was stronger in this brew but that's a very minor complaint. All the flavors mesh well with each other, with no one flavor overpowering the others. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's rich and coating with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a pretty good overall imperial stout, certainly worth trying if you get the chance!
