On-tap at the Clark Street Alehouse in a snifter. Thanks to Victoria who works there for the excellent pour. Appearance is awesome, golden and not clear. The nose kills me it's so good, making me very excited for the first sip. I could just stick my proboscis all the way in to the bottom of the glass and drink this through my nose it feels like. Definitely a winner. Great yeast character in both smell and taste. Hops and malt are well balanced and there is a depth of flavor and sensation, sharpness, crispness, dryness, fruitiness...highly recommended if you ever get a chance to try it. The only other place I'm aware of that has it on-tap is the 3F's brewpub. Cheers to 3Fs on another solid beer.

A cloudy orange body, decent head, thin collar, low retention. Develops a nice puffy collar.

Huge banana nose, big phenolic presence, plastic...grimy sharp, industrial. Clove background and spicy power.

Bright citrus burst rolling into s banana smoothie. It's herby, spicy, sharp cloves... Bubble gum finish and relatively dry characteristics after the clove burns free.

Carbonated off the bat, bitingly so. Through and through You have a full bodied flood of liquid that nearly hides the flavors. Flavors are unique and blended.

Really nice. Really worth trying.

Served in a "bowtie" glass at FFF brewpub

This beer looks a hazy yellow orange color like that of orange juice in the glass. The aroma is nice and light but is the clear distinct definition of a a hefe's aroma. There is the sweetness with wheat, bananas and clove all together, but very light at the same time. The taste is really solid. There is a sweet wonderful flavor on my palate that I'm having a hard time trying to describe as to why it's so good. This is how a hefeweizen should taste. It has the banana and the clove, but isn't overpowering in either. The sweetness is just perfect and makes me truly wish that warm weather were just around the corner. It could use a bit more carb on the tongue, but at 9% this is dangerously drinkable. I wish I could have this all the time.

A- Pours a hazy golden orange color. Two finger white head show medium retention. Streaks of lace here and there mix with a spotty lace as well. Looks great!

S- Tons of banana and bubblegum upfront. There is a light clove in the middle with hints of alcohol. More banana and bubblegum on the backend.

T- I get a light pineapple juice upfront to this beer. This quickly turns into a smoothie banana flavor. Hint of bubblegum and alcohol in the middle. Banana come through in the backend times ten. There is a light metallic flavor that hints for a second before more fresh banana and hints of clove end this one up.

M- Medium heavy mouthfeel. Carbonation is good for the style. Bubblegum, banana, light metallic flavor is left on the palate. Aftertaste is banana, clove, and hints of alcohol. Flavors were blended very well for the style. Hint of metallic flavor in the ending is the only flaw in this beer. Medium alcohol drying on the palate.

O- This beer was a very nice drinking beer. Hell all FFF beers are great and this is just another example.

Listed on the FFF beer menu as, 'Our German-style Heller Weizenbock.'

Appearance -- Pours a hazy golden amber hue with a slim creamy white head.

Smell -- Cream of Wheat, bready malt, gentle yeast, lemon zest, clove oil, and banana. Not especially aromatic - wish there was more of that good stuff wafting out of the glass.

Taste -- Lots of banana, clove, cream of wheat, candied lemon zest, and clove. Banana and malt sweetness very much in the forefront. Lingering flavors of gentle hop spiciness and clove.

Mouthfeel -- Medium-bodied with ample 'fluffy' carbonation. Alcohol presence can be felt through the mildest of warming sensations as one progresses through the glass.

Drinkability -- This was a very pleasant surprise. I don't consider myself a big Weizenbock fan, but I got into this one in a big way. Another Decisive win for FFF.

On-tap at Three Floyds into a bowtie...The beer is a dark honey gold, murky, ugly. Tope head with good retention and lacing, doesn't make up for the color...Strong aroma of mostly clove, but banana, honey, and lemon accent...The taste is all cloves, a tad too sweet and much for me. The finish is pureed bananas, and while I'm not a huge fan of that, I do like it as it breaks up the clove...Incredibly easy to drink the alcohol is totally hidden.

This is really sweet but crushable. Cloves aren't my thing but if you like this style I would get this for sure.

Served in a german weizen glass at Local Option 2/5/11.

A: Served an absolutely gorgeous looking hazy, caramel/orange/amber color that glowed even in the low light at Local Option. Creamy and pillowy weiss head displayed excellent retention and left a lacy mess in the glass.

S: Big time clove, banana, and cardamom. Some quite lemony Noble hops pushed their way through and kept this from becoming too yeasty.

T: See above. As it came up to temp it started to show off a bit of a boozy alcohol flavor that was simply not there when freshly poured.

M: Thick and creamy and quite sticky. Interesting bright citrus hop cleaves its' way through before being overshadowed by a hint of alcohol roughness at the very end.

D: An excellent example of the style. Would like them to brew a version of this with a point or two less abv%.

On tap at Three Floyds. Served in a weisse glass.

From the menu: our German-styled heller weizenbock, malty with hints of candied banana and clove. 20 IBU 9% ABV

Looks dark and cloudy. Just barely translucent. Nice white head has strong retention for the style, especially considering the ABV! Very thick lacing forms big rings.

The nose has big banana notes, lesser hints of clove, and a solid malty base-- caramel and bready.

The taste has some light sweetness upfront, then the fruity banana esters kick in. Clove comes across towards the backend, but the finish is really pretty clean. Something gives me a "Fruit Stripes Gum" note.

The body is full for the style. Ample carbonation lightens the feel up a tad. This works. It works well. This is an imperial version of a style that I don't normally pickup for myself, but it has plenty of flavor, a good feel, and enough ABV to sneak up on you!

Three Floyds pushes the boundaries-- successfully-- yet again.

Served in a bowtie at the brewpub.

Here begins our Three Floyds Brewpub Experience. It pours a hazy orange juice topped by a finger of white froth. The nose comprises mandarin oranges, lemon zest, banana, clove, nutmeg, and coriander. The taste holds notes of orange zest, wheat, clove, black pepper, banana, and a rather light dusting of cinnamon. The body is a light medium, with a light carbonation and a slightly grainy feel. Overall, a very nice weizenbock, different from most I've had but still rather tasty.

From My Notes:

A- Very hazy yellow with good size white head.

S- Very crisp citrusy hop smell. Some banana notes mixed in towards the end.

T- The clove gives this beer a spicy flavor to it. Citrus hops all over the place. The banana flavor comes out pretty well, but the cloves really come out

M- Lighter on the body and moderate carbonation in the feel.

D- Lots of flavor in this year. I really enjoyed the clove spices

On-tap at Three Floyds. $4(!) for a bowtie. This is a weizenbock in my opinion.

A - Served with a finger of yellow-tinged foam that settles to a thin cap, leaving glass-coating lace patterns. The body is a ugly, unfiltered, murky, milky, brown-yellow color that isn't totally out of character for the style.

S - Banana, cloves, malted wheat, yeast, some spicy esters. Maybe a hint of lemon.

T - Cloves! The malt character is less grainy and sweeter. Finishes with bananas, and a lightly bitter and spicy finish. No obvious alcohol.

M - Chewy, some grain character. Medium-bodied, medium carbonation, a touch of warmth after a whole glass.

D - This is surprisingly drinkable. The combination of cheap, strong, and deceptive probably has the Munster police department salivating. I like Drunk Monk more, but this was a pleasant surprise considering some of the negative buzz.

Hour-old growler into a Duvel tulip.

A: Hazy, wheaten cider body with some off-white head that settles quickly, with little lacing.

S: Banana, clove, and some spice, with a touch of bubblegum. Really pleasant, if you're into hefeweizen.

T: Just a bit sweet and sticky, given the wheat and the ABV. Good banana esters and noble hopping.

M: This was more carbonated on tap of course, and it shows that it came out of a growler. However, the body is very full but not overkill, with appreciable chew.

D: A bit too drinkable for 9 percent. This goes down so easily and tastes very good.
