Notes: A collaboration/dedication ale brewed with our friend Urbain from the Belgian brewery De Struise, this intense Belgian-style double IPA was fermented with Urbain's special yeast and then an amazing amount of hops were added. This beer was brewed in loving memory of a former employee, Rich Sheppard, who passed away on 4.11.11. Art by Tommy Borst. Try this beer and enjoy the Rich life.

Thoroughly hazed, rich orange / golden hue, full, long lasting off-white head.

In the nose: hops are big, bold, brash here, spilling out all sorts of intense fruity esters, powerful and pungent. Alcohol ain't shy, either.

In the mouth: I'm going to want to use intense here again. Because it is. Immensely flavorful, from both malt and hops. Massive bitterness, incredible flavors, and a hearty malt ballast. Can I use intense again? It's like a triple IPA meets a barleywine, with a Belgian twist. This is right up my alley. Love it.

Good nightcap, this. Nighty-night, everybody.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 4/2012. Pours slightly hazy deep golden/orange/amber/light copper color with a 1 finger fairly dense and rocky light khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, plum, pear, pineapple, apricot, mango, honeydew melon, red apple, guava, berries, white grape/wine, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, banana, bubblegum, peppercorn, clove, pine, honey, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, white bread dough, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/earthy hops, fruity/spicy yeast, and dark/bready malt notes; with big strength. Taste of huge red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, plum, pear, pineapple, apricot, mango, honeydew melon, red apple, guava, berries, white grape/wine, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, banana, bubblegum, peppercorn, clove, pine, honey, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, white bread dough, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness; and banana/clove yeast spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, plum, pear, pineapple, apricot, mango, honeydew melon, red apple, guava, berries, white grape/wine, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, banana, bubblegum, peppercorn, clove, pine, honey, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, white bread dough, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops, fruity/spicy yeast, and dark/bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy/sticky, fairly resinous/rindy, and lightly slick mouthfeel that is great. Mild increasing warmth of of 9.5% after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic imperial Belgian IPA. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops, fruity/spicy yeast, and dark/bready malt flavors; dangerously smooth and easy to drink for the big ABV, with the mellowly bitter/spicy/drying finish. Awesome soft feel, and not aggressive for the ABV. Feels like Centennial, Amarillo, Columbus hops. Extremely juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy hops with balanced Belgian yeast; with a nice sized dark/bready malt backbone. Light residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding spot on style example. Held up amazingly for over 7 years.

Bottled 2/17/14; drank 3/24/14 @ the Yarchives.

Semi-opaque orange hue.

Big off-white head; frothy, thick lace.

Medium mouthfeel.

Grapefruit & orange citrus flavor; hint of banana on the finish. As it warms, slight caramel notes emerge.

Great balance, great flavors...great beer!

Pours a hazy and grainy orange. Smell was full of hops with citrus notes and belgian yeasts with a malt backbone. The overall taste is strong and uncompromising. Hints of orange and vanilla finish off the west coast hops and belgian yeasts. It's out there, but I think quite enjoyable. Little more refined in the feel than I remember shark pants being

Bottle dated 2/20/18. Pours lighter shade of amber, a bit of head remains with small and medium bubbles. Smells of bubblegum, bread, banana. Taste is bubblegum, tropical fruit, bready aftertaste. Mouth feel is very carbonated. Great job marrying the IPA and Belgian styles.

Super fresh Belgium DIPA purchased at Binny's today. .
..had it last year and it was clear the bottle had sat on a shelf too long. This is a quintessential 3F's collab and in my humble opinion one of best examples of the style you'll find.
