This massive thick freek of a white ale is brewed with a hint of fresh ginger, coriander, white pepper, orange peel, and orange juice concentrate. The yeast was donated by our friend Urbain from De Struise.

I thought for sure I reviewed this already...anyways. Had it on-tap at some place in the west 'burbs. Served in a tulip.

A: Pours a milky orange with a faint white head.

S: Wit on steroids! Big banana and clove with a generous orange juice background.

T: Taste follows the smell and orange/tangerine theme is big here. Table sugar and banana Foster flavours are clear and present. It is a tad cloying, but not unbearably so.

D: Alcohol is expertly hidden and the flavours are diverse and inviting. The mouthfeel is milky and viscous.

Overall: Weird-ass beer from a crazy brewery, but still very good. If this was released in bombers I would certainly pick some up. I wish I could have some for the Christmas season. This just screams "Festive!"

On tap. Served in a chalice glass.

A- Cloudy gold with a one finger head that slowly dissipates. Leaves some spots of lacing.

S- Orange juice, orange zest, coriander, fresh ginger and some wheat.

T- Orange zest, lemon zest, orange juice with pulp, banana, clove, white pepper, coriander, bubblegum, spicy ginger and wheat. The ginger and orange linger in the finish.

M- Medium carbonation and body with a slightly creamy mouthfeel. The 8.5 ABV is undetectable.

O- This is the strangest FFF offering I've had. I enjoyed it but only after getting through half the glass, as the ginger and orange juice concentrate were big in the flavor. While it was a very unique beer, I'm not sure if I could have one more glass, as it is quite sweet.

Served on tap in a chalice at Northdown.

Appearance: My glass arrives with a cloudy orange liquid filling up the glass with the identifying Three Floyds off-white head on top. Spots of lace cling to the glass as the level drops. This certainly looks imperial compared to any other Witbier I have had.

Smell: This smells like an orange, almost like Blue Moon with half an orange squeezed in it. That's not really a compliment. Full wheat, coriander, and orange zest really dominate.

Taste: The flavor is full to be sure. Sweet wheat up front, some banana, pepper, coriander, and a burst of orange citrus. There is only one level though, there is no depth or real complexity here.

Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel follows the name of the beer - thick. A medium carbonation exists here but seems to undershoot what would be necessary to make this better. Sticky.

Overall: This is just too cloyingly sweet. As I consumed the glass, I kept knocking off half a point here, half a point there from the score because it was fairly difficult for me to finish the glass. It does not surprise me to learn afterward that orange juice concentrate was used. Hopefully that is a mistake they will not make again.

On-tap at the brewpub into a goblet.

A: Cloudy peach-colored body with a finger of creamy off-white head. Ok retention, nice lace. Solid.

S: Very spicy: the white pepper and coriander really dominate, with a bit of ginger in the background. Maybe a hint of citrus. Nice, but a bit one-sided.

T: Huge. Spice, banana, orange, alcohol, bread, and more spice. Pepper is the biggest single element, followed by banana. Delicious, but a bit boozy on the finish. It gets more gingery as it warms, which I love.

M: Thick, creamy, and full of life. Excellent.

O: This was a terrifically flavorful beer, and would have done great in a Double/Imperial Witbier category; as it is, I found the big booze to be more of stumbling block to enjoying its complexity the more I drank. I'd gladly have it again, but I don't know that it would be one to drink in large quantities.

poured cold from the tap at finch's brasserie a murky to opaque burnt orange gold to a 10oz goblet with a half finger off white head with nice retention leaving sticky lace to the rim.

aroma of orange zest and yeasty farm bread.

tangy mandarin orange up front fading quickly to a tangy, funky farmhouse ale type groove. as the bier warms, the citrus is even more evident, perhaps with a bit of spice - hot ginger.

a big bodied wit. medium carbonation, thick and creamy.

overall - dam, very nice, big(?) bodied wit, super citrus.

On tap at FFF, poured into a snifterish glass.

A- Rich thick, heavy yellow profile. Body definetly has that wheat beer thickness, topping off with a 2 finger head that lingers.

S- Huge aroma of spicy Belgian yeast, orange, coriander, and more wonderful yeast. Maybe a touch of lemon zest lingering in the back

T- Banana, Banana, and more Banana, mixed with coriander, white pepper, a little clove, all inside a wonderful yeast and wheat profile. I don't know exactly what I was picturing for this beer but regardless, it was a great surprise. Im typically not a fan of banana flavoring in a beer, but this works wonderfully.

M- Slighty more than medium body. A heft and smoothness that is nice in a wheat beer. Not over powering, but the wheat and yeast mix to make a wonderfully almost creaminess

O- Suprisingly nice Witbier. A great spice fruit profile, without being over whelming. While the fruit was more banana and spice than anything, it was in a way that made th beer very easy drinking and pleasant to all aspects. Would have grabbed a growler, had they let me.

Murky and opaque, dark orange with a frothy dollop of foam. Lasting suds, drippy crown of lacing is left behind after a few sips.

Huge bubblegum aroma, tropical orange bubblicious.
Citrus and earthy coriander also, to a lesser extent.

Luscious and impossibly Intense pulpy orange flavors, some mild tingle from the Belgian yeast phenols, and light orange peel bitterness. It's like an orange banana smoothie. Wheaty in the aftertaste, lending to the sublime creaminess of this beer. Starts slightly sweet from the huge load of orange and finishes relatively dry by comparison with a hint of coconut towards the end of the glass. This is 8.5%? Could've fooled me.

A very tasty and unique take on an imperial witbier, unlike anything i've tried. Huge points for creativity here. Right up there with personal favorites Two Jokers and Jan de Lichte.

Imbibed at the FFF Brewpub on 06/23/2011.

Appearance -- Pours a cloudy orange hue with a tuft of gritty lily-white head. It kind of looks like an Orange Julius. Interesting is an understatement.

Smell -- Very aromatic, with coriander and ginger being most prominent, along with orange, cracked wheat, and clove.

Taste -- Pronounced ginger and coriander spice, ripe orange, and cream of wheat. Semi-tart yeast flavor and clove make themselves known once the shock of all of that citrus and spice begins to wind down. To call this an intense Wit is an understatement - very spicy, very fruity, but still with a hearty dose of cracked wheat. Finish is coriander, ginger, and orange pulp.

Mouthfeel -- It feels like an Orange Julius: thick, fluffy, pulpy, and with moderate carbonation. Not bad, but it definitely takes a few sips to get accustomed to.

Overall -- This beer was weird. Good weird. The mouthfeel takes time to get acquainted with, and the orange and spice flavors are very intense at first, but I found myself really loving this beer as I kept working my way down the glass.

A noble experiment. I'm REALLY glad I went against my instinct to avoid a beer with orange juice concentrate in it.

On tap at Three Floyds with Mike and Sean.. Murky milky gold, uglyish, decent retention and lacing... Nose is all belgian yeast, ok, a bit boring, very soapy... Taste is sweet and soapy yeast, too sweet no hops, no balance, not a big fan of this, my least favorite of the 3 new Belgian's

Enjoyed on-tap @ Three Floyds BrewPub in Munster, IN for $6. Poured from the Awesome Artsy Tap Handle into a 10.5 oz Snifter. Once brewed beer.

Aroma- Starts with a HUGE orange juice aroma. It was almost as if orange juice was brewed right into the beer. Has a nice spice and grain aroma as well.

Appearance- Received with a 1 finger head that had great retention. Light Gold/Orange color body with a nice hazing behind it. There was lacing on the sides as well.

Flavor- You can taste the oranges from the beginning of the drink. AWESOME! This sweetness is held through the entire drink and is refreshing and crisp. Very light sourness and has a perfect bitterness for the style. Can't get any better!

Mouthfeel- Light- Medium Bodied, High Carbonation, Wheat background, Mild Chewiness (Okay), and has this orange taste forever!

Overall Impression- For my first beer @ the FFF BrewPub, it couldn't get any better! I gulped this down without any problem and would have ordered many back to back but wanted to have as many "rare" brews from here that I could. Loved every second of it and would recommend this to anyone!

On tap at the Three Floyds brewpub, poured into a snifter.

A - Very cloudy orange twith a nice thick white head that lingers for a long while.

S - Lots of coriander/ginger in the nose with citrus backing. Little off putting actually. Some yeast playing around in there as well.

T - Bold taste but a little unbalanced. Citrus flavors and spices don't play well together. The coriander and ginger dominate the beer, and have to look hard past those spices to get to the witbier. Very bold, but overpowering.

M - Could be easy drinking with nice carbonation and body, but the spices and bold flavors make the mouthfeel become a little heavier.

O - Little too much on the spice for me. Had it with some food and it helped subside the beer and cut through the spices. Not a beer I would seek out again.

I got to experience this twice now at Three Floyds.

Mood: The first time I was there with my husband at a high table near the bar, we were starting on a road trip. The second time we were on a mini road trip and at the (busy!) bar.

Appearance: Yellow with white head. The head was nicely formed and did not dissipate either quickly or slowly.

Scent: Oh the scent! Heady and sweet with notes of cinnamon, cardamom and ginger! Oh the ginger!

Taste: Ginger immediately on a first sip - this gives way to my palate to strong coriander with notes of cinnamon. The combination recalls an exquisite curry or an interesting custard. Very slight banana in the finish as it warms.

Body: Thick! Now you know where Thick comes from in the name. Thicker than table cream, maybe the texture of heavy whipping cream.

This is a white Ipocras in beer form.

Though this beer was thick and rich, it managed a lightness and 'drinkability' due to the addition of the spices. A lovely sweet beer, suitable for summer. If you like sweet, light, spiced beers, you will enjoy this.

Tried on tap at Floyds, 27 Jun 2011. Served in a snifter.

Small white head. Moderate carbonation. Cloudy orange gold in color. Aroma is very orangey and perfumey, some ginger. Taste is similar, with ginger being a bit more prominent. Yeasty orangey perfume. Fairly sweet and floral throughout. Medium creamy body. Alcohol is slightly warming.

Quite perfumey and floral.

Have had this twice now. Like all FFF small batch/experimental stuff, you can only get it on tap at FFF. No carryout, and they don't distribute it.

As others have said, color is as a light, super cloudy orange juice. Aroma, wow, citrus fruit (particularly oranges, and lemons), mostly. Taste - as one reviewer said - there's a LOT of flavors going on here, due to spice additions. I think this is one where everyone is going to pull out a different taste from it, depending on what sense-memories you have.

I think perhaps the most amazing/interesting thing about this brew is the mouthfeel! Others have said "creamy," and that's not wrong, but the creaminess is... more creamy than cream. I know, hard to believe... but. There you have it. It's amazing.

Anyway, by the time you read this, TWF might be gone - but if not, go have it while you can!

A: Poured a cloudy orange, almost like an overly sugared orange juice. Nice thick white head, a little over 1 finger, with not much retention. Leaves a good lace on the way down.

S: Very yeasty and sweet smelling, almost like bubblegum. There was also some citrus and spiced pepper notes in there.

T: There are so many flavors going on ridiculous. Big bubblegum yeasty with an orange citrus backbone. The white pepper gives it a nice spiced kick at the end. A nice web of flavors.

M: Very creamy and smooth. Medium bodied with a medium carbonation. Leaves a nice spicy citrus on the palate.

O: Ridiculous cornucopia of flavors. I liked this, but I don't think I could have more than one in a sitting. I'm glad it came in the mini-snifter. Anything else it might have been too much.

A -Pours an update yellow color with a little bit of stock on the sides.

S - Smells of a healthy dose of yeast and a lot of sweet candy sugar and syrup.

T - this if exceptionally sweet and cloying. A lot of candy sugar with some belgian yeast. Big problem with this one is how sweet it is, makes it hard to get down.

M - Kind of syrupy and low carbonation.

O - Too much sweetness overpowers this beer and makes it hard to get a ton down. I'd pass on this next time.

A very cloudy orangey color. This looks like I am making orange juice from frozen concentrate and it needs stirring. Very interesting.
Huge thick lacing forms sheets that slowly dry up into rings. Nice retention too.

Smells of oranges... Big time. Oranges are intense. I like it. Some peppery and spicy notes come through as well as a bite of spicy wheat.
This tastes just how I'd expect after the nose-- lots of oranges and coriander with white pepper and a spicy wheat malt underneath.

Very nice body-- hefty and full but holding plenty of carbonation.

This is a very solid beer. An imperial wit is a style rarely attempted, and even more rarely done this well. This hides the booze and retains the intents of its refreshing origins.

On-tap in a different squat and stubby tulip glass.

A - Murky dark apricot body, with a finger of white foam that settles to a thick collar and leaves small splotches of lace.

S - Pretty typical witbier aromas - coriander, peppery yeast, creamsicle. Big emphasis on the yeast and wheat flavors.

T - Again, plenty of bread, wheat, and yeast, with less spice and pepper than I noticed in the aroma. There's some orange peel as well, but I'm guessing most of the orange concentrate fermented out?

M - Zesty carbonation, smooth medium body, dry finish, and some light warming alcohol.

D - Split a glass with Chris. Easy enough to drink, but not something I'd crave again in the near future. Still, I generally dislike Imperial Witbiers and this was pretty enjoyable.

Thick White Freeks, because "that's what we are," accroding to Three Floyds' Brewmaster Barnaby Struve.

Served in snifter at Three Floyds on June 16, 2011 during lunch with buddies cetherid and hurfer.

A: Pours opaque amber-orange with creamy whit head. Very good lacing. No way to determine effervescence through the haze. 

S: Orange juice, cloves, pepper, and general spiciness. Wheat "tang." 

T: Sweet orange juice mixed with cloves and pepper.  Some sugary grapefruit. Mild bitterness. Spicy finish with twang from wheat malts and some orange peels.

M: Medium-heavy body and medium, fizzy carbonation. Sticky mouthfeel. A little syrupy. 

O: This is obviously an imperial Belgian Witbier, and it has the big flavors and adjuncts to back up that claim. Nevertheless, abv is well hidden and it drinks very nicely. Recommended.
