Pours a dark Amber / chocolate color. Has an aroma of chocolate malts and hops. Flavor is chocolaty with slightly bitter hops and a touch of sweetness to balance. Overall this is a really nice porter.

22oz bottle poured into a pint glass
A: Very dark brown, almost black with a 1.5 finger head that lingers for a while
S: As others have said- lots of roasted malt, cocoa and some smoke
T: Matches the nose though smokier. Still lots of malt, some cocoa and a bit of hops
M: Medium-bodied, round, creamy
O: Also like others have mentioned nothing reminiscent of most Christmas ales but this is very well made and enjoyable to sip on a cold winter day

Poured very dark, rich looking with smooth creamy tan head. Started at about two fingers but dissipated within a couple minutes. At first smell, I initially lost all hope that it would be pleasant-my first thought was 'a piece of clothing drenched in cigarette smoke that was left in the cold rain for a day and then wrung into a beer bottle'; however after a bit of warming up I realized it was my fault for not letting it initially warm. Smokiness persisted but turned a bit creamy dark chocalate after ten minutes. Mouth feel was thinner than what I expected and strong coffee hints entrenched every crevice of my mouth. Overall a very interesting porter that, as always, I would have a second time before either loving or not liking. TWENTY MINUTES LATER UPDATE: After it warmed the nice sweet smokey chocolate came to life and I had to give better props to one of my favorite semi-local breweries. Lesson learned: Always let it warm up!
