Poured a highly viscous pitch black color. Aroma a bit muted but picked up some sweet sweet vanilla and coaco. The taste is extraordinary sweet. Diabetes in a glass. Notes of vanilla and overly sweetened chocolate brownie batter, coffee seems to be missing. It only became more sweet at room temp, intensifying the sweetened ‘baked goods’ to the flavor profile. Mouthfeel is full bodied, rich and smooth. Overall it’s a thick luscious sweet stout. No notes of coffee by any means, instead its a thick laden desert. Some have described it as tasting like soy sauce which I disagree. However, be sure to share with others, the sweetness leaves one glass pour being more than enough.

7000th review! 22 ounce bottle into signature teku glass, 2018 vintage bottling. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky tan head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, vanilla, cream, fudge, cake batter, licorice, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, and toasted dark bread; with light notes of smoke, char, leather, tobacco, sherry, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Touch of booze in the aromas as it warmed, but not overwhelming. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, sugar, vanilla, and fruity yeast notes; with big strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, vanilla, cream, fudge, cake batter, licorice, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, and toasted dark bread; with light notes of smoke, char, leather, tobacco, sherry, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Very mild hop, roast, char bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, vanilla, cream, fudge, cake batter, licorice, dark fruit, toasted dark bread, light smoke/char, leather, tobacco, sherry, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, sugar, vanilla, and fruity yeast flavors; with a solid hop/roast bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and extremely full body; with a very creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel the is perfect; lightly slick/syrupy. Minimal sticky hops, chalky roast, or dryness. Minimal warmth of 15%, with zero booze lingering after the finish. Overall this is an insane flavored Russian imperial stout! All around amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, sugar, vanilla, and fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV, with the minimally bitter/drying finish. Insanely rich and complex; with perfect balance of malts, coffee, sugar, vanilla, and fruity yeast. This is the smoothest 15% stout I've ever had. Completely lived up to the original hype it had in the early years. A world class RIS.

2013 drank in November of 2017. Huge roasted malts, with some burnt coffee undertones. Very slick and coats the mouth. Probably one of the most well rounded, true to style stouts I’ve ever had.

S: sweet. Vanilla Carmel toffee.

F: very sweet. Vanilla shines. Toffee and caramel flavors hit.

F: thick viscous and smooth. Ultra creamy.

O: a great beer by any means. On the sweet side. Just be ware.

Lots of raisins and plums both on the nose and taste. Very syrupy and sweet. Overall very good but not my favorite.

Pitch black beer with just a touch of a tan head that soon dissipates into nice lacing across the top. This is one on the absolute darkest beers I have ever come across., could have used this to view the eclipse.

Kind of a sweet smell, caramel, malt, toffee, vanilla, and probably other things I'm missing.

Starts out sweet, almost a Belgian candy sugar taste to it. There's vanilla and coffee and chocolate as well. This is easily one of the most complex beers I have tried. The alcohol is well hidden, just some warmth at the finish.

Thick and smooth feel, as I expect from the style.

Not sure what I can add that hasn't been said before. This is a very big beer, with a very complex flavor profile. Easily one of the best beers I have tried, there is just a lot going on here. My only regret is I don't have another bottle to age, I would like to try one after a year or so of aging. Definitely worth a try, if you can land a bottle.

I don't have much to say that hasn't been said, but this is based on the May 2018 release. Sticky and sweet, vinous, with subdued coffee and vanilla notes and a dry finish.

I just had a 17 last weekend and was underwhelmed with flavor for it being my first and everything you hear about how it needs aging. I will be reviewing a 2016 bottle. Bomber poured into a pint glass.
So this beer pours out like motor oil. Very thick and dark. Doesn't form any crown whatsoever in the glass.
The smell is a lot of sweetness. Caramel, vanilla, molasses, figs. Just a ton in there. Some tobacco notes as well.
The taste is very much the same as the smell. I do get how some people would think this is too sweet, especially since this has 2 years of aging on it. But it's right up my alley. I love that sweetness.
The mouthfeel is thick. It coats the mouth and stays.
Overall, this is a much better experience than the 17 for me. I loved this. So sweet, so good.
