At 3 Floyds- ontap

A - Slight copper to golden hue, slightly hazy. 1.5" white head, nice lacing.

S - Slight grapefruit, nice hop aroma is the dominate nose.

T - Nice sweet flavor from the yeast, hops are present but not as strong as nose indicated, slight fruity taste, grapefruit and banana. Little bit from the hops on the aftertaste.

M - well carbonated, served at about 38F, hops really released as beer warmed. Might have been served a bit to cold for style.

O - A well balanced beer. Something different for 3 Floyds. Very refreshing, and drinkable. Will definitely enjoy this one again.

served on-tap @ Three Floyds brewpub, Munster, IN, into a tulip glass

Pours a hazy yellow color, the shade of a Halls honey-lemon cough drop. Less than a finger of eggshell colored head. It's very... expected looking. Basic.

The aroma, however, is anything but. The first whiff yielded that distinctly lemony aroma that Sorachi Ace hops provide. Subsequent sniffs, though, were all about pineapple. Just tons and tons of pineapple juice. It's an aroma that makes me thirsty just thinking about it. There's a bit of plasticy astringency from the Belgian yeast but nothing substantial.

The taste sort of follows the nose, but it is way more subdued that the aroma. It's light and clean. It's be good with food, for sure. Crackery malts meets light pineapple meets yeasty balance, dashed off with a twist of lemon.

The beer goes down easily, despite not having the level of attenuation that I ideally want to see in Belgian styles. Overall, this is a nice beer that doesn't taste like how incredibly it smells.

Draft at Twin Anchors, served in a footed goblet.

Dark brassy gold, orange tones, fairly good clarity though there was some haze and carb trails visible in the light. Compact cap of white foam.

Overripe funky fruit in the aroma, bruised peaches or pineapple.

Pretty smooth and easy drinking, well integrated Belgian yeast fruitiness with some hop complexity and citrus peel bitterness lingering behind. Sorachi Ace hops are in general pretty distinctive, though they seemed a bit subtle here, and more a supporting component of the whole. Light to medium bodied with some slight sweetness at first segueing into a bitter and lightly dry aftertaste.

Overall pretty tasty, could be a little more crisp and hoppy, but the combination of fruity yeast & hops here was interesting.

Brilliantly clear, slightly orange-tinted golden body beneath a nearly white head of 3 fingers. Great retention an lacing.

Lots of citrusy hop notes-- those New Zealand hops are tasty! There is a little grassiness and a touch of earthy Belgian yeast.

Some yeasty fruity esters come across a bit on the finish that I hadn't picked up in the nose. Lots of lemony, orangey, and grassy hops with a pretty strong bitterness.

Medium-full body with plenty of carbonation.

Overall-- a pretty tasty BPA. Maybe not the best, but certainly a solid beer from FFF. Very enjoyable an easy to drink. It actually reminds me of aotearoa, but with a Belgian yeast strain.

A - Pours a darker orange color, white head, thin collar, spotty lace.

S - Hops, Belgian yeast, banana, citrus. I like the nose, the hops are the main contributor to this brew, while the others take a back seat.

T - The hops are there, but not quite as prominent as the nose suggests. The yeast adds a sweeter characteristic and follows up with tropical fruity notes. Finish has a hoppy bite.

M - Light body, good carbonation, syrupy finish.

O - A nice Belgian Pale that's easy to drink and not quite as hop-focused as your (not) normal Three Floyd's beer. I would definitely have a pint if it's available on-tap at the brewpub. Good stuff.

A - A finger of orange-tinged foam settles to a thin cap, leaving behind glass-coating lace. Lightly hazed golden-bronze body, with a few slow-moving streams of bubbles present.

S - Initially the smell is very subdued - I suspect I got this far too cold. After letting it warm up a bit I discovered it smells like lemon cake - icing sugar, cake batter, lemonade, and a hint of lotion.

T - The taste has a bit more of the trademark Struise yeast, imparting peppery and light phenolic notes. Otherwise this has a ton of the trademark Sorachi Ace lemon character, as well as a herbal finish that features mounting bitterness. As the beer warms, the Belgian influence comes out a lot more.

M - Chewy texture, medium body, no alcohol presence, and some slightly zesty active carbonation. The finish has tons of resins and hop oils - far more than I'd expect from this style of beer.

D - It took me significantly longer to work through this beer than the 219, even though this is only slightly stronger in alcohol. A very unusual combination of flavors, but ultimately a fairly successful one. I'd have this again, and I preferred it slightly to Eben-Emael.
