Appearance – The beer poured a milky black color with little head or carbonation noted.
Smell – The nose is sweet, noted by cognac and perhaps grapes.
Taste – My first impression is grape skin which is followed by milky malts, chocolate, and smooth cognac. The cognac has mellowed nicely and leaves a trail of sweetness. The sense of bitterness increases through the duration of the sample, but an overall sweetness continues to the finish.
Mouthfeel – The smoothness of a milk stout is apparent. With little carbonation left, the cognac makes the stout sticky. This lasts a while.
Overall – My God this is good. Seek it.

750ml bottle sealed with pressure cap and red wax.
poured into tulip glass.
Appearance: black bodied beer with 2 full fingers of medium brown head. Still a nice looking beer for its age.
Smell: very cognac forward and a fair sweet smelling beer. Some bittersweet chocolate and meaty smoke too. Hints of oxidation are present.
Taste: Just like the nose. Lots of rich cognac which is pretty pleasant. Hints of chocolate and light meaty smoke. Hints of ashy and light roast. Some cardboard is starting to come through, but with the great cognac presence found in this beer the oxidation is very forgivable.
Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer with low carbonation. This is really mellow and drinkable. Not boozey at all.
Overall: This was a pretty decent Cognac barrel aged milk stout by Floyd's. It has also held up really well, but drink them now if you still have a bottle.
