Pours a dark chocolate color with a mocha head. Aroma is weird. You get deep roasted malts but there aromas competing with each other. Flavor is super roasted malts, you get hops and faint chocolate. Has a nice body and overall is a nice stout but not impressive.

Pitch black pour with ample, viscous tan foam. Excellent lacing. The nose actually gives you hops first, with a little pine and earthiness. Then the chocolate, roast, and coffee smells of a stout follow. The taste has roasted malts and chocolate with the earthy, piney hoppiness still present. Body is full with moderate carbonation, a bitter, balanced finish. A really nice, slightly hopped up, bitter stout.

Had two on tap at the brewery. Goes down smooth tastes of chocolate, coffee, hints of toffee. Two beers got me very buzzed.

22 oz. bottle, bottled on date 01/15/2016. A new one to me from Three Floyds. Acquired the bomber for $18.99 plus tax at the local beer store, so not exactly cheap. No abv listed on the bottle anywhere.

Poured into a Duvel tulip snifter.

A - Pours a darkish brown with hues of red thrown in there. Definitely not black. Appears milky & creamy, like liquid milk chocolate in a glass. One finger of quickly dissipating khaki tan head. Looks very nice.

S - Aroma comes off as hop-forward initially: much more fresh fruity piney hop aromas coming out of this than was expected. No notes of char, roast, barley malt. Maybe because this is fresh, but it smells more along the lines of a Black IPA.

T - Taste follows the nose: hop-forward for sure. Doesn't exhibit the traditional stout roast or bitterness, even after a warming period. Tastes and feels more like a Black IPA to me. Herbal, earthy, bitter, piney, resinous.

M - Feel is the same: easy-drinking stuff. Medium-full in body, with good carbonation.

Overall, it was okay but no where near to be $20 dollars a bottle good. Was nice to try, but I will pass on this one next time.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a pint glass
A: Pitch black with a 1.5 finger head that slowly settles
S: Lots of cocoa, some bitter coffee & hops
T: Matches the nose- bitter cocoa, coffee & malts
M: Medium-bodied, somewhat bitter & definitely some alcohol showing
O: Bold with a nice mix of the hops FFF is known for with the nice structure a stout deserves. Overall a well made and tasty beer

Very smoky fudge at first. Not a long retained head. Lacing is pretty decent. Rusty black licorice. Overall a bit disappointed. Not any outstanding flavors to me, plenty hoppy as expected from 3F

Pours a nice black color. 1 finger head that keeps a film around. Pretty huge hop kick in the aroma. Almost a vanilla cake too. Rubbing alcohol. Tastes like a hop addition to the boil. Little dark chocolate, little coffee. A lingering bitterness. Soy sauce. A nice slick mouthfeel. Overall, A nice stout that I wouldn't refuse in a small pour, but won't be getting a bomber of.

22oz bottle from @mr-jj served in a large tulip. Bottled on 1-15-16, 1934-1937.

Pours black with a small light brown head and a small number of carbonation streamers along the edges. Looks like an imperial stout. Smell is mildly chocolatey, moderately yeast, with a healthy coffee roast aroma. More chocolate.

Taste is chocolate sweet, roasty bitter. Moderate dark fruit presence. Very tasty.

Mouthfeel is just on the border of chewy. Overall, really good beer.

This is another fantastic stout offering from one of the best breweries in the Midwest. It's extremely strong and dark as the name suggests. There is heavy notes of dark chocolate and coffee. Also used for their beignet chocolate sauce. Fantastic.
