Poured into a pint glass. An opaque brown-black color with a generous khaki head. The foam stayed with me throughout and settled slowly into a nice cap. The nose was primarily chocolate and oatmeal, but there was also a mild cherry tartness and a bit of char. I tasted the cherry up front and I have to day that I noticed a mild phenolic plastic flavor with a hot finish. Nice chocolate and coffee notes. The phenols threw me and I did not enjoy this one. Medium bodied with a creamy feel.

Fall 2014 vintage; drank 12/11/14 @ Harvest Hop Haus.

Poured from the bottle into a glass.

Black/brown hue.

Tan head; strong lace.

Orange citrus & mild mocha nose.

Medium thick mouthfeel.

This tastes like an above-average black IPA; orange citrus & roasted dark coffee flavors, melded well. Nice.

Well hammered in at this point.

3 Floyds Blot Out The Sun pours a color reminiscent of utter death. Just black blotty rotty char.

Aromas of Bourbon, sweet plums, sticky syrup.

Flavor is insanely strong. Bourbon, fig, roast malt, and I also wrote "like swallowing a demon" (?? lol).

Feel is thinner than I'd like, but pretty hot and burning.

Overall, a better than decent Imperial Stout. Insane, I'd have it again.

It was an incredibly delectable stout with chocolate notes mid-palate and a caramel and slight hazelnut finish that simply blew me away. The aromas were to die for with hints of oats, marshmallow, and maple syrup making for a quite compelling wafting sensation. It appeared an opaque, rich black that while intimidating at first glance certainly lived up to its name. I may not remember much from a day of copious drinking/shagging on the beach, but I will certainly remember the three floyds blot out the sun-best imperial stout I've ever consumed. In a word: scrumptious.
