Enjoyed with Ryan, split from a 22oz bomber into two tulip glasses.

Pours a dark slightly hazy amber body with a two finger white head that reduces to leave some frothy foam.

Aromas are initially quite fruity and tropical, giving way to piney and resinous aromas once it warms a little. On the tongue is pine and resin on a heavy malt backbone, sweet with caramel and a bitter finish. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

I can respect this for what it is, its a malt forward IPA that hides the abv quite well. Not a fruit / citrus bomb, but on the other end of the spectrum.

A 22 oz. bottle date 2-13-2017 poured into a TH tulip glass.

Appearance- A medium orange color slightly murky. About 1 finger of slightly off white head with nice lacing down the glass.

Smell- A ton of citrus fruit in this one with a nice pine note in it. I definitely smell grapefruit, orange peel, and apricot. The pine mix really screams drink me.

Taste- The citrus fruits combine with the pine for almost a perfect mix to me. The fruit definitely dominates but the piney taste reminds you it is a DIPA. Such a great juicy taste with no alcohol coming through.

Mouthfeel- Moderate carbonation with more of dry finish than I anticipated. So much juicy citrus to finish dry.

Overall- A world class double IPA and a great change from the NE style DIPAs. The juicy taste blends with the piney hops to make this super drinkable. Be careful of the fruity taste covering the high ABV. Wish I had one more.

Thick, chewy, malty, sweet and boozy. Some pineyness...not the typical characteristics I am a fan of in an imperial IPA. Glad I got to try this but it's not for me.

Lovely pour, amber with perfect clarity with a small head with little retention
Smells of sweet malt, mango, peach, grass
Delightfully matches the nose, with almost about towards the middle but finishes on a fruitnote
Light mouthfeel, not quite pillowy

Amazing DIPA !! Truly world-class. Taste this whenever you have the opportunity!
Be warned, though that it can be a real palate wrecker, so don't expect to do much beer tasting/sampling after drinking Permanent Funeral :)

Best aroma and taste from an ipa. Best 3 floyds I've had and that includes dark lord and behemoth

Glorious glorious ... took me back to the first time I had Avery's Maharajah. Funeral is an old school-style imperial with a more pronounced hop bitterness upfront then counter balanced with a wallop of malt on the backend. No tip toeing the line here, an imperial in every sense with one exception: no alcohol burn, just incredibly smooth. Loved it- great work here by 3Floyds!
