On a long road trip down south, the girlfriend and I managed to make it 45 minutes outside of Chicago before giving in and going to a brewery for lunch. It turned out to be a great move given the quality of beer and food that we got.

Aside from the beer and food, however, the experience could have been a bit better.

The atmosphere was open and inviting when we arrived, but after the slow-to-react bartender approached us with a fairly aloof and stand-offish attitude that openness seemed to slip away just a bit.

The other complaint I had was that the selection, particularly in the to-go department was very limited. Managed to get a few Jinx Proof bottles out the door, but they were pricey and they were the only beer they had to go that I could not easily get anywhere in Chicago.

That said, there was one completely amazing beer that I had never been able to try before - the Behemoth Barleywine with Cherries - holy crap that was a good beer! It was served on tap and it was amazing. The only reason we even had it though was because one of the very friendly servers with giant gauge earrings told us we should try it and that it would only be available for a few days. I'm so glad that I did, but when I then asked the bartender for a growler he said it was only for on-premise consumption. I can understand that, but given that they were out of almost everything else, it would have been nice to catch a break there. I would have gladly paid the outrageous $35 price tag they had on the regular Behemoth for a growler of the Cherry, but no dice.

As much as I am getting down on the place, though, they are still one of the greatest breweries in the country, and on the planet for that matter. All of the beer we had was delicious and the food was surprisingly good. The burger (for those of you in Chicago) was Kuma's-esque and the Mac n' Cheese reminded me of the stuff at Shuba's on Southport and Belmont.

We'll be back again, I just hope we catch them at a time when they are better stocked and they have a bartender that isn't sick of people who are excited to be there.

I was there Sunday evening around 5pm and the place was full and there appeared to be a wait. There was a couple seats at the bar so I took one with no wait. The overall feel of the place was more of a restaurant than I expected. The service was excellent. The selection consisted of 20 beers on tap with a couple spots for guest breweries and had a good mix. I did not eat so I can't speak to the food. I loved the Star Wars collectibles that decorated the bar area! Overall a great experience and I will be back when I get the chance.

Visited on a Thursday around 11:30 am for lunch. There were many tables open when we arrived, and no line, so it was odd when we were told a 20-30 minute wait, but within about 6 minutes we were seated at the bar. The menu was full of delicious items, we ordered appetizers and meals, the beer list was stocked with some distro beers as well as some we'd never heard of, so we mainly ordered those (but a fresh Zombie Dust was better than any bottle I'd had). Prices weren't outrageous, but not cheap, either. For all the negatives I'd heard prior to visiting, I had a wonderful experience and would visit again.

As advertised, this brewery and its brewpub are "not normal."
But, they are enjoyable.
My wife and I had to wait on a Saturday afternoon for 20 minutes for a table in the bar. (The hostess should know to seat old people like us where the music is not so loud.) To kill the 20 minutes, I went into the store and bought a few bombers that I had not tried. After we got a table, we had a beer each (no flights) but the waiter was very understanding when I couldn't make up my mind. (They also could have a large type beer menu for us senior citizens.)

We also got a free tour of the brewery and they generously kept our table for us. The tour guide, Karl, was quite good, engaging and more than knowledgable and a two decade participant of the ins-and-outs of the craft beer industry. While the tour was a great value, the food was a good value... a thoughtful menu for a brewpub. (I had the white pizza. It was good, although I speculate that it had more brewer's yeast than baker's yeast.) I also like that the beer list had as many offerings from other breweries as 3 Floyds.

I am not the first to comment that 3 Floyds is a curious place. It also is the great American success story. Long live "not normal" as it helps breed entrepreneurs !

Rock and roll beer heaven (if you like old school punk) on the radio! Fabulous graphics on the wall, and attentive bar staff. I ate lunch at the bar and the service was spot on. The burger and parm. fries were gourmet quality. And the beer flight was delicious and it's hard to not like fresh ZombieDust on tap. Plenty of parking (I drive a small RV). Beers to go by the case as well. A first rate brewery/beer pub!

Walked into "holy diver" cranked on vinyl, the super friendly bar tender poured me a tall zombie dust and I was in heaven. Had the brisket tacos with another zombie dust and finished it off with a gumball. Great vibe even better beer and good people. Will come back anytime I am in the area. I highly recommend.

Took the drive down to IN during a quick business trip to Chicago. Definitely glad I do so. I arrived just after noon and there was a short line to sit and eat. Since I was by myself they let me order a beer and wait at the "holding table". The greeter was helpful and I was sat within 5 minutes.

I was there for lunch of a Friday, bartender was super nice and helpful. I had great service all around.

The beers speak for themselves, poured in proper glasses and super fresh

Food was really good, I had a steak sandwich and mac and cheese which were just what I needed to enjoy a few IPAS.

Glad I took the trip, I definitely recommend the visit.

I visited with my brother, who lives just across the border in Illinois.

Awesome vibe! We had to wait about 15 minutes before they could seat us (at the bar), but it was worth it for the intimate atmosphere. The decorations all over the walls are intriguing. I'm not sure how to describe it--sort of nerdy with a dark side.

We just had a few beers. The serving sizes seemed a little on the small size, but the beer was excellent in quality. The menu includes a number of unusual items (such as a scotch egg). The food I saw being carried to others looked very good.

Service also seemed good, but we were just at the bar and did not order any food.

The menu offers a dozen or more 3F brews on tap in addition to a variety of options from other breweries (but why would I drink anything other than 3F while visiting 3F?). Also a good (and unique) selection of food items.

Didn't try any food, but it looked good.

3F is definitely worth a visit for anyone who enjoys drinking very high-quality beer and visiting interesting brew pubs. Just try not to arrive at a busy time.

Nice beer pub with plenty of artworks located in the middle of an industrial zone. Nice selection of different style of beers. Merchandise shop is also offering plenty of interesting merchandise. Waiters are nice and helpful with fair prices. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the surrounding area.

Three Floyds is one of those places that can do no wrong. Beers are amazing, food is amazing. Music is played on vinyl. Just wish Zombie Dust was always available for carry out, but when you make something that good, it's not always going to last.
