On a long road trip down south, the girlfriend and I managed to make it 45 minutes outside of Chicago before giving in and going to a brewery for lunch. It turned out to be a great move given the quality of beer and food that we got.

Aside from the beer and food, however, the experience could have been a bit better.

The atmosphere was open and inviting when we arrived, but after the slow-to-react bartender approached us with a fairly aloof and stand-offish attitude that openness seemed to slip away just a bit.

The other complaint I had was that the selection, particularly in the to-go department was very limited. Managed to get a few Jinx Proof bottles out the door, but they were pricey and they were the only beer they had to go that I could not easily get anywhere in Chicago.

That said, there was one completely amazing beer that I had never been able to try before - the Behemoth Barleywine with Cherries - holy crap that was a good beer! It was served on tap and it was amazing. The only reason we even had it though was because one of the very friendly servers with giant gauge earrings told us we should try it and that it would only be available for a few days. I'm so glad that I did, but when I then asked the bartender for a growler he said it was only for on-premise consumption. I can understand that, but given that they were out of almost everything else, it would have been nice to catch a break there. I would have gladly paid the outrageous $35 price tag they had on the regular Behemoth for a growler of the Cherry, but no dice.

As much as I am getting down on the place, though, they are still one of the greatest breweries in the country, and on the planet for that matter. All of the beer we had was delicious and the food was surprisingly good. The burger (for those of you in Chicago) was Kuma's-esque and the Mac n' Cheese reminded me of the stuff at Shuba's on Southport and Belmont.

We'll be back again, I just hope we catch them at a time when they are better stocked and they have a bartender that isn't sick of people who are excited to be there.

I love 3fff beer but both times I have been to the brewery it has been terrible service. They really could give a shit whether you stay or not. Really shitty because one of my favorite breweries but never going back again.

This place is much smaller than I expected. I've always heard how amazing 3 Floyd's is so I was expecting a very large establishment. When my wife and I walked in we quickly understood why this place fills up so quickly (even at 4pm on a Sunday): Not only is it very good, but it is small. The food and beer selection is excellent and varied, but service does take a while. However the wait for food and beer is worth it due to the quality. The volume is quite loud due to not only the small space and the fact that it fills up quickly, but also due to the volume of the music. The artwork, pictures and hard rock/death metal theme are all pretty cool.

Vibe is metal music, strange mix of movies on and even stranger decor.

Quality is very good.

Service has been much improved lately. They are actually friendly and inviting now.

Selection between food and tap menus is always outstanding.

I highly recommend eating here. The food is always really good and always a bit of an adventure.

OUTSTANDING food and taps lists make this place a must visit to anyone driving by.

One of the best places in five states, awesome vibe, great food, long lines. Good news is they never rush you, the bad news is the service is not in a rush either. Oh and the music is great, they spin a great mix of classic deep cuts and alt rock platters.

Only real down-side was the oppressively loud music. Oh, and the lines, which seem to be a trademark. I'll admit, never really gravitated to metal, so that is par for the course. But for the beer, which is worth its reputation, and the food which is a very nice range of tasty treats, I can wade in and deal. Now, I can say I'm glad I did not bring my daughter, who is sensitive to loud noises, and I'm not sure my wife will join me again, but overall, I came away satisfied.

Love the 80s metal pumping in the background. Service was really good, and every beer was very good. The guest taps, war pigs and the 3 floyds regulars make for some tough choices
