This is a nice little place that is easy to find off W Pico. Large bar area on the left and dining areas in the back and right. There is plenty of dark woods here offest by golden color walls. The bar can seat about 14 or so, and there are a bunch of high tops off the bar. Two TVs in the bar too.

The beer list is very good. Loads of bottles, some stored in glass front refridgerators behind the bar. Bottles included a few from Russian River too. There are about 15-20 taps, with a focus on CA beers. On this trip there were about 6 beers on from Drake's. The beers we had were fresh.

There is a focus on sausages here, ranging from bratwursts to wild game sausages such as elk, boar, and rabbit. Plenty of burger choices too. The food we had was all very good, including a great apple strudel dessert.

Overall our experience was super as service was friendly and very responsive, and the food and beers were great. This would be a great stop for any BA.

I hit up Steingarten tonight for the Firestone Walker event. The location is a pretty good place with an inside that has tables and bar seating and a patio that has a few tables near some restrooms. The place is pretty acoustically poor so it got super loud and hard to hear conversations when it got packed. They offer about 15-20 beers on tap and a pretty deep bottle list with some rare gems I haven't seen anywhere else for sale. Beer came in the appropriate glassware and some of them even came in the branded pint from the brewer. Service was pretty average tonight as the place was quite crowded, so it took a while to get refills on water and the like. The limited food I tried was good and I wouldn't be opposed to eating a full meal here sometime. Prices are a bit on the high side for drafts and bottles. Definitely a neat little place and I will be back for sure sometime.

Steingarten is wonderful! Good number of taps (looked to be about 20) all looked pretty decent and no "fillers." Bottle list was perhaps not the largest I've seen but maybe the most impressive I've seen in Los Angeles. There is something for everyone and at a price point for everyone.

I'm surprised that it has not gotten more attention and more raves on this site. Suffice it to say that it may well be a "must try," especially if you're in West Los Angeles. Very large but wonderfully good and selective beer bottle list (Cantillon, 3 Fontenien, Lost Abbey Red Poppy, etc., etc. available; where to you see that?), in addition to the taps.

We shared a 750 of 3 Fontienen Doesjel, 2006, a great suggestion from the service staff when the Cantillon we wanted originally was not available. (There was another Cantillon but we opted for the 3F). Prices can be high, but the beers that are high priced are rare and absolutely not a ripoff; these are likely bottles that are worth it and that you'll either have in your cellar or have to trade for - likely not available at any other Los Angeles area place. (I saw one 3F on the list for $38 that retails in stores for about $30. A bargain!)

The drafts are fair priced for large pours. I made a comment that I never drink a big glass and was sorry that I couldn't just get a taster. At which point, the waitress pointed out I could pick any draft beer (but for one) and get a 4 selection taster! It was great. Before our bottle of 3F we got 4 tap brews for $10 and shared the tastes.

All in all, very good food (get the combination sausage plate with the housemade mustards...wonderful..I got the house made sauerkraut (sp?) and a cucumber salad; my son-in-law opted for the parmesean (sp?) fries. He also said it was the best (and maybe the largest) chocolate cake he's ever had for dessert.

Service staff was knowledable and friendly. Bartender (sorry, I neglected to ask her name) is very personable and not afraid "to be real." (That means she's not afraid to "speak in the venacular" if you know what I mean, which really makes most men least it worked for me ...[hope that doesn't get her in trouble!].

I think the entire meal and beer prices are value received. Perhaps a bit more than a local "joint" but in all respects a first class place.

So, all in all a great place; try it.

Steingarten LA is an updated version of a German beer garden in West LA on Pico Blvd near the Fox Studios.

This gastropub specializes in sausages: chicken, pork, beef, duck, lamb, veal, alligator, wild boar, elk, rabbit, bison, venison, and wild salmon. Vegetarian options are chipotle, apple sage, and Italian. They also have appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and burgers. The burgers are all natural grass feed ground sirloin steak. Turkey burgers are also available.

There is a large bar section, dining room, private party room, and an outdoor patio with a fire pit. Staff are knowledgeable, professional, and friendly.

There are 20 craft beers on tap and an extensive bottle list. Examples of the beers on tap: Green Flash Summer Saison, Deschutes Black Butte XXII, Ballast Point Yellowtail Kolsch, Lost Abbey's Serpent's Stout, Port Brewing Mongo DIPA, and Dogfish Head Hellhound Ale.

Pint Nights feature a brewery such as: Stone, the Bruery, Deschutes, Sierra Nevada, Eagle Rock, Ballast Point, New Belgium, and Firestone. Steingarten has a full liquor license so they also have cocktails and whiskey.

I wish their website ( would list the beers they have currently have on tap.

Happy Hour is every weekday from 4 – 7pm.
