A murky dark brown (SRM 22-24) with a large rocky beige head that resembles the top of an ice-cream float. The head lingers, leaving spotty lace on a Cisco Fisheye pint glass.

This is more than a little soapy, with light hop and light malt aromas, but nothing worth noting.

The sweet and bitter notes are distinctly separate, with flavors of apple, and maple syrup, before a lingering dry finish.

A full body, with syrupy texture and surprisingly lower alcohol than expected. The carbonation is modest.

The name of this beer suits it well, as it is a bit of a random outing. Unfortunately, for me, there was no pay-off in the end. I did enjoy it with a meal, but the rough flavors would be better suited to a tailgate party, or some other event with lots of fried samplings.

Popped the cork off this well aged brew and it pours very hazy mahogany brown color with a lot of carbonation racing up the brew like champagne, sediment floating around and then a 1-2 finger foamy light tan head that was full of little bubbles and faded slowly, leaving good foamy lacing.

Smells of floral hops, allspice and pumpkin up front, followed by honey, ginger and caramel. It smells like a winter warmer, then one whiff is pumpkin beer, then one whiff is herb/spiced beer: this brew has a nasal identity crisis going on, and while it is very interesting I’m not sure if I like it. Too many odd spices and not enough of the malt I was hoping for; as a brown ale this goes so far off course that I’m not sure it’s odor even resembles a brown ale.

Tastes like it smells, but with more spices and a little more sugar, syrup and malt sweetness, yet not nearly enough to make it a malty brew as the spices are too dominant. Ginger, cinnamon, allspice, pepper, cumin, potpourri, light floral hops, tea leaf, cracker, some malt and caramel mix together for a spiced beer that is closest to a winter warmer than anything. It’s complex in a messy way and not getting any better as I make my way through the first half. All the spices completely hide the ABV, but this flavor is just not doing it for me – it will be a struggle to finish the bomber alone.

Mouthfeel is thin with light carbonation, a medium body and a spicy slightly bitter aftertaste that is so full of spices that it negates all sweetness and leaves potpourri.

I did not like this at all. I'm not a fan of strong spices in my beer so this bombed as a brown ale in my opinion. My American Brown Ale preferences are in line with Brooklyn Brown Ale, Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale, hell I’d even take an English Brown Ale like a Samuel Smiths Nut Brown Ale or Newcastle Brown Ale over this. Sorry Cisco, this was a complete disaster in my book.

A: The beer is hazy brownish amber in color. It poured with a half finger high dense beige head that has good retention properties and too a long time to die down, gradually opening up a small hole in the center of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of ginger are present in the nose along with hints of malty sweetness.
T: As in the smell, the taste is dominated by flavors of ginger but notes of other spices such as cinnamon. There is a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer seems to be more liked a herbed/spiced beer than a brown ale but nonetheless has an interesting mix of aromas and flavors.

Appearance: Poured from a fresh, well-settled 750 to a tall tulip. Gorgeous deep red-brown, initially clear, with a finger of fine textured tan head.

Aroma: Just wow. Candied fruit, delicate hops, cookie, spearmint, mildly medicinal/phenolic.

Taste: I just have to say that this beer absolutely blows away any brown ale I've ever tasted, to the point that it redefines the potential of the style. As in the aroma, the tase includes candied fruit, delicate hops, cookie, and spearmint. A mildly medicinal/phenolic note is present, perhaps from a touch of brett. There is an impression of spice, but nothing so heavy-handed as actual identifiable spices; perhaps better described as an herbal note. I cannot emphasize enough how magically this beer progresses. When poured cold, the cookie and mint are up front. Later, the fruit and phenolic come in. as it approaches room temrerature, the flavors transmogrify this beauty into a nearly full-on sour, with a previously hidden cidery bite bursting across the palate. Subsequent finishing pour included some cloudiness and yeasties, which broadened the flavor range futher, and in a nice way; not better or worse, just nicely by way of range and depth. I must pause to say that this beer brings what I consider to be the ultimate flavor profile characteristics: depth and complexity, and yet the flavors are balanced and well-integrated. The level of integration in the beer is something you might expect from something a year old, but it's not, it's fresh.

Body: Medium mouthfeel, with just the right level and texture of carbonation to compliment the strength of the flavors and aroma. Carbonation faeds approaching room temperature, but this suits the sourness of the flavors there.

Overall: Everything is in place here for this to truly rate the full boat of five stars.
