It poured a medium copper color with a two inch thick off-white head that leaves a fair amount of foamy lacing in my nonic. The body is brown/orange with barely any carbonation is seen rising. The smell is balanced between the malts and the hops with a slight herbal aroma. The taste is balanced between the malts and the hops. A good sweetness dominates the taste. The palate is medium with a good smooth and creamy feel. It leaves a wet finish with a sweet aftertaste. This is a pretty drinkable beer. Overall, this is good for its style and good for me.

Appearance: Very slight haze on a deep copper body. Head is bright-white and drops to a thin cap pretty quickly. Carbonation looks to be moderate.

Smell: Apples, biscuits, minerals, and a touch of grass. Juicy red apple coupled with a doughy biscuit. Some sweetness from caramel malts. Slightly toasted. Nailed the English thing. Faint hints of citrus round the whole thing out.

Taste: Biscuit malts and minerals. Big doughy malts coupled with some caramel sweetness and apple skin. A touch grassy and loaded with the delicious flavor of English water. So many biscuits! Brightness from the hops drops citrus. Very well balanced.

Mouthfeel: Moderate body with moderate carbonation. A touch dry on the end of the sip. Smooth and slightly creamy.

Overall: A well-made English Pale Ale. Nice balance.

Sampled from a 12oz can in a standard pint glass. Thanks to LarryG.

A - A brilliant copper color with good clarity and a small white head that dissipates quickly.

S - Piney hops with some toasted malt.

T - Nice piney hops with a moderate citrusy bitterness that lingers for a while. But the hops are almost balanced by a toasted malt with a touch of caramel. Good flavor and complexity.

M - The carbonation detracted a bit. A burst of very fine bubbles would release on contact with your mouth giving it too light a feel. It detracted a bit from the experience.

D - A fresh, flavorful and fun beer. I was surprised and impressed with this one.

Whale's Tale Pale Ale from Nantucket....I can see the Pequod leaving dock now.... A hazy copper color in the glass with a light off-white head. A biscuity malt aroma with slight hoppy undertones and also some sweetness. Not much hops, just enough to balance fruit sweetness from the malt. Pear and caramel in the center, finishing with a quick bitterness. Smooth and drinkable, even a cantankerous old peg-legged tar would agree.

A- Golden amber color with a creamy white head. Good head retention

S- Herbal, leafy, with touches of lemon zest. Notes of lemon grass and spices

T- Nice herbal over tones, with a slight soapy flavor. Strong hop presence.

M- Smooth beer with not much carbonation. Light acidity on front end that matches with the bitterness.

O- Very drinkable. Then ice bitterness with the citrus notes makes this a great summertime pale ale.

Had this at Bukowski's in Boston, MA. A very nice brew with a very bready character, smooth caramel and ample sweetness. Fruity sweetness rides along the beer's backbone. Hop bitterness is low, just enough to balance.

I'd definitely have this again on-tap, and in fact prefer it over the bottle.

Ok, once getting past the goofy name, it pours a rocky, lacy cream colored head that settles out over clear softly carbonated deep golden/brassy liquid. Nice breadlike doughy nose with subtle hop tones. The taste is light fruitiness with a toasty edge washed aside by good bittering hoppiness that becomes more apparent as it warms. Finishes nicely balanced without an overbearing hop bite, quite a drinkable ale here.
