The indoor portion looked like a pretty dirty dive but they have a great dog-friendly patio where we spent the night. It got a little crowded but the service was still quick and friendly (though not always knowledgeable; I had to describe the tap handle/can more than once when ordering). The draft selection was entirely craft beer (~10 lines, up to date on beermenus) and another dozen options in bottles/cans.

One of Over The Rhine's less uptight, more pet-friendly bars - expect to see people's dogs if you drop by. The tap handle selection is usually decent or better, with the occasional cask offering or limited release, and allegedly they also have bottles. Clientele-wise, Neon's can get a little overcrowded at times, and there's definitely an overabundance of flannel, skinny jeans, and thick-rimmed glasses most of the time. The patio area gets tented in with large heaters going during the winter, when the inside bar is usually too packed to move around in. I've never had an issue with dirty tap lines here, though some of the bar staff are not at all beer-oriented.

I have been going to Neons for almost two years now and would recommend it to anyone. I live In a neighborhood full of bars within walking distance and choose neons almost every time. The combination of friendly service, a vast bottle selection, constantly rotating drafts, and good cheap bar food keeps me coming back. At anytime one could find a rare import, a special release craft beer or a local amber lager. The prices are usually the lowest around and if you grow tired of drinking draft they have over 200 bottles and infused craft cocktails. When visiting Cincinnati this is a must see, the courtyard and bocce ball court create a fun outside environment, while the inside is quite cozy on a cold day. My only criticism is some of the staffs beer knowledge, while some could explain the nuances of a sour, others know more about craft cocktails but little of the beer. It is rarely a big problem but occasionally get in the way of smooth service. Overall neons is a great bar and is a staple of the Cincinnati beer scene.
