Raise a goblet of Klingon Imperial Porter to the strongest warriors in the galaxy. Discover the ruby undertones that pay homage to Klingon Bloodwine and fallen warriors who hold honor above life. "There is no honor in attacking the weak," so take pleasure in besieging this 7.3% ABV Imperial Porter. But like this mighty elixir, Klingons also have a sweet side: Witness the wedding ritual where the gods forge two hearts so strong that once joined together cannot be opposed. A Klingon proverb states: "Death is an experience best shared", and so is the first Star Trek limited release of 2017! Qapla'!

Dark brown in color with a hazy almost muddy clarity, poured with a half finger skim of thin looking tan colored head that has poor retention and leaves a thin watery ring of lace that slides down the side of the glass.
Aroma is light with milk chocolate notes to it and a faint whiff of an odd sourish off-gassing hint.
Fairly sweet and heavy bodied with a moderately chocolaty tasting malt forward with ghostly note of hazelnuts to it, front end feels a little cloying and over sweet but not all that bad.
Finish is fairly bitter tasting with a green sapling leaf hop flavor to it that grows as it warms, as well as an odd, hard to define flavor that I associate with a macro brew, like the back end of something like a Molson Canadian, a lingering faintly sour vaguely chemical tasting like a bad fake flavored cough syrup with a faint trace of ethanol that hangs out on the aftertaste and builds up to be unpleasant

Pours a brown burgundy highlights, not very Imperial Porter like. Small kahki head falls fast not much lace.
Aroma is little different, toffee, light anise, not very roasted.
Taste is like the aroma, toffee anise, some light fruitness. Eh not really bad but not what I'm use to as an Imperial Porter.
Mouhfeel is a little light for the style.
Overall eh average beer, but a great big Porter.

I picked up a bottle of Shmaltz's Klingon Imperial Porter for $2.59 at The Lager Mill. This one peaked my curiosity and I thought it was worth checking out, so lets see how it goes. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a snifter. 2017 Vintage.
A- The bottle looks good, it goes well with the name and it's eye catching. It poured a brown and copper color which took on more of a hazy brown copper color when held to the light with a fingers of bubbly and slightly off white head that died down to a thin ring that eventually faded away and it didn't leave much lacing behind. This is an ok looking Porter, but it's pretty light colored for the style.
S- The aroma starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with the yeast being the first to show up and it imparts a fruity yeast with some apples and a little bit of dark fruits showing up and that goes into the malts which impart some caramel, caramel malt, bready, sweet malt and grainy aromas with just a light hoppy aromas showing up towards the end that just impart a generic hoppy aroma. This beer doesn't have a great aroma for an Imperial Porter, it's too light and muted.
T- The taste seems to be a little similar to the aroma and it starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with the malts being the first to show up this time and it imparts all the same aspects, but this time there's just a slight roasted malt aspects, but it's not robust and there's no chocolate flavors. Up next comes the fruity yeast which is lighter than it was in the aroma and it just imparts a light dark fruit flavor with just a little bit of noticeable alcohol. Towards the end comes the hops which show up more than they did in the aroma, but they still impart that same generic hoppy aspects. On the finish there's a slightly lower amount of medium bitterness with a malty and slightly hoppy aftertaste. This isn't a great tasting Imperial Porter, it's really lacking the robust aspects that I usually find with the style.
M- A little smooth, a little overly bitter, slightly creamy, a little crisp, medium bodied with a lower amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is ok, but it needs some work on the smoothness.
Overall I didn't think this beer was that great and it wasn't a good example of the style, it wasn't a drain pour, bit it just wasn't what I look for in a good Imperial Porter. This beer didn't have good drinkability, one is more than enough for me. What I like the most about this beer is the appearance and mouthfeel, they weren't great, but they were still the highlights of this beer. What I like the least about this beer is how off it was for style, it taste more like an Imperial Brown Ale to me. I wouldn't buy this beer again and I can't say I would recommend it. All in all I wasn't a fan of this beer and I think they missed the mark when it came to this style. It's now one of my least favorite beers from this brewery and it's not a good example of the style. Better luck next time guys, this one needs a lot of work.

Read maybe 10 other reviews, pretty inconsistent! Were we all drinking the same beer??
Anyway, the one I had was a pretty pecan brown (no red). Very little foam, very little aroma.
Little bit lighter, bubblier mouth feel than I was expecting from something called an imperial porter, but not at all watery, so, ok.
Flavor was just pretty much straight up decent ale/porter-ish. Maybe a little more sharpish, peppery note in there.
Not a ravin' fave, but pretty good. I had it with some cheese and bread. Wonder if the flavor might be vastly improved if I'd had it with a brat hot off the grill on a cool fall day.

I was really excited, being a Trekie. Disappointed is how I ended up. It tastes like a bad home brew gone wrong. There were none of the characteristic roasted notes expected in a porter. It was boozy, but without the benefit of good flavor. I'll be displaying my remaining three.

Klingon Imperial Porter by Shmaltz Brewing Company at Local Republic
Nice color with Caramel color head. No noticeable notes to nose. Medium feel; roasted malts on palate that linger. A decent porter. 6/9/17

Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, tan head of foam. It smelled of chocolate, roasted malt and toffee. Nice roasted flavor, coffee and dark chocolate.

Light brown color where light shines through easily. Little head and little lace—a few spots.
Sweet, brown sugar aroma. Little to no hop.
Terribly sweet, but with a decent hop balance. But the sweetness wins! Chocolate flavors with a cinnamon tastiness. Full bodied and lowly carbonated. Lots of caramel. Long sweetness aftertaste.

Poured from a 12oz can into a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a dark brown color with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains roasted malts, caramel, honey, some coffee and a touch of hops.
T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel, coffee and honey. Then a hearty roasted malt character comes in. The hops presence is decent for the style and brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly bready.
M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, good kick, decent representation of style, this is an honorable porter to drink before battle… Qapla’!
