Pours a very dark brown with a small head that is gone in a flash.
Kind of looks like flat soda after settling into the glass.

The Booze and caramel just wafts out of the glass and smacks you in the face. Notes of vanilla and dark fruits are also apparent.

Tastes boozey and sweet. A little overpowering in both those categories. The sweetness comes in the form cola syrup and vanilla. Then more booze. Burns a bit when swallowed.

Mouthfeel is syrupy, but with decent carbonation and alcohol burn, it almost feels like drinking cola.

At twelve percent ABV, it's not all that drinkable. And to be honest, the flavor isn't all that appealing. I enjoyed Bittersweet Lenny's R.I.P.A. much more than this brew.

Note: Aged since 2008

A: Pours an opaque yet still clear jet black in color with light amounts of active visible carbonation along the edges of the glass and faint dark cola brown highlights. The beer has a half finger tall foamy dark tan head that reduces to a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of dark fruit (fig and plum), chocolate, brown sugar, and caramel. Moderate aromas of dark malts and a light hint of booziness.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of dark malts and light flavors of roasted malts with a moderate amount of brown sugar, caramel, and toffee sweetness. That is followed by light notes of nuts and moderate to strong flavors of dark fruits (fig and plum). Light amounts of earthy + spicy hops are present in the finish which contribute a light amount of lingering bitterness.

M: Full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light to moderate amounts of alcohol warming in the finish.

O: This beer ages really well with a much smoother mouthfeel and better hidden alcohol after time in the cellar. A slow sipper but definitely a very enjoyable brew.

A: The beer appears black when viewed from afar; when held up to a bright light traces of brownish red are visible near the edge of the glass. It poured with a short beige head that quickly died down, leaving wispy lacing on the surface and a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: The smell is quite malty, having aromas of nutty malts and toffee.
T: The taste follows the smell, but has added complexities with additional hints of brown bread, dark fruits, molasses, and raisins.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a little smooth on the palate with just abound a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer ages particularly well, which seems to lend some smoothness to the mouthfeel. The alcohol is extremely well hidden from the taste.
