22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on late 2011. Pours pours nearly opaque dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big molasses, toffee, toast, caramel, dark bread, brown sugar, raisin, cherry, prune, fig, chocolate, cocoa, tobacco, leather, light smoke, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roasted/bready malt and fruity yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of huge molasses, toffee, toast, caramel, dark bread, brown sugar, raisin, cherry, prune, fig, chocolate, cocoa, tobacco, leather, light smoke, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Slight herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of molasses, toffee, toast, dark bread, brown sugar, raisin, cherry, prune, fig, chocolate, cocoa, tobacco, leather, herbal, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity and balance of dark/roasted/bready malt and fruit yeast ester flavors; with a great malt/fruitiness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy, moderately slick, and lightly syrupy/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an incredible strong ale! All around outstanding complexity and balance of dark/roasted/bready malt and fruity yeast ester flavors; and extremely smooth to sip on for the huge ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Three finger head grows with aggressive pour. Brew is damn dark. Lots of purple and brown.

Hint of mint?!?!? Lots of red grape. Caramel.

WAY Sweet. Loads of bready, oaked, sugary, sappy, vanilla. Syrupy and pretty damn over done. Caramel is chewy and robust. Nearly a mess, but still put together nice. Carbonation is mild.

This one could use even more time on the shelf. WAY too sweet for my liking. Not sure how I feel about this...on-the-fence.
