On-tap 1/18/2015 at Pour Farm, in New Bedford, MA, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a large dense beige head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is faint but contains maple, caramelized malts, nuts and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out with mildly sweet flavors of maple and caramel. Then a hearty roasted malt character comes in. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.

Pours dark brown with red/orange at the edge of the glass where the light hits the glass leading up to a 1-2 finger creamy light tan head that looked like a Guinness and faded slowly, leaving decent spotty lacing.

Smells of caramel, nuts, cocoa powder, floral hops, metal or a penny, roasted grains and charcoal or dry burnt toast with a hint of sweetness at the end. Earthy comes to mind and the grainy finish lingers with the metallic notes.

Tastes of toffee, caramel, roasted grains, metal/penny, cocoa powder, burnt toast, roasted nuts, piney hops, herbs or floral hops, syrup, light yeast and earth flavors like peat moss or top soil. The hops add some nice spice bite and bitterness, but the earthy syrup flavor is a little bland and doesn’t vary much from sip to sip or change as it warms up.

Mouthfeel is on the light side, with slightly below average carbonation, a smooth watery feel and a bitter grainy finish that has too many earthy notes to make this tasty. It was average, nothing exciting overall.
