Batch # 02/1492. Bottle date: 2/18/13. Poured in to tulip.

A - Black with one finger of medium brown head.

S - A huge funk aroma and a big tartness are evident up front with some lighter oak and chocolate aromas hidden in the background.

T - The tartness and funk from the nose are much less evident but are still a big component of the palate. Oak, whiskey, char and roast with traces of dark fruit.

M - Medium to full body. Creamy. Light carbonation.

Served in a Local Option cervoise.

Well, my homeboychick J.R. wussed out on our erstwhile continuation of our quest through the Jewbelation series, so VDubb's gonna haveta fill in for this final step (as of now, anyway). This stuff pours a deep black-brown topped by a half-finger of khaki foam. The nose comprises roasted malts, whiskey barrel, dark fruits, and a light haze of raspberry. The taste brings in more of the same, with a stronger sense of bourbon and a bit more dark fruits (richer this time). The body is a lithe medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a smooth feel. Overall, a kinda odd beer, but one that generally pleases.

It's time to unleash the funk! Batch 1. The two batches should really get separate listings...

Funky Jewbelation pours a very deep brown with a nice cap of head. The aroma is - honestly - not what I expected. The Funky might be more than in name, and I don't know where the fruit could come from except for the Oirigin in the mix, but I get a bit of a tart fruit peeking over the rye barrels. I was expecting pure sugar sweetness from reviews I remember reading earlier, but this smells very nice. The taste brings some of the fruit sweetness I expected into play for sure, with a huge sweet malt along with a pronounced nuttiness that hits the backend with the strongest barrel component the beer has to offer. The mouthfeel is thick and syrupy - overly thick for the strong fruit component. Overall, Funky Jewbelation is a tasty and complex barrel-aged blend that doesn't quite strike cohesiveness. Drink it cooler, the temperature rising just brings out more sweetness.

(Served in a snifter)
Batch 001 bottled 13/6/12
A- This beer pours a jet black body with a tan creamy head that last for a good bit.

S- The earthy wet wood aroma has a soft Flanders red cherry ester note to it with some tartness in the finish.

T- The nice tartness is followed by a red wine character with some caramel and smoke with some walnut hints to it. The sweetness of the finish has bourbon and chocolate malt coming through and lingering for a bit.

M- The medium-full mouthfeel has an alcohol heat and a soft carbonation in the finish.

O- This beer has some good layers and it is interesting how the sour and oak mix well with red wine and Flanders yeast characteristics with softer bourbon notes. It gets a bit too thick and syrupy for me as it warms but it was interesting to drink along the way.
