22 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. I have been eyeing this bottle for a while now, so I know this beer is about a year old now, but I doubt the 16.00% abv has mellowed much. This sounds like one of the craziest beers I've tried yet, so I have no idea what to expect.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours with a slight mahogany hue to it, but it appears as opaque motor oil black in the glass. Just over a finger of creamy chocolate mocha head. Some thin scattered lacing. Looks good.

S - Smells rich, dark, sticky, and boozy. Oak wood, bourbon, rum, chocolate, cream, chocolatey fudge syrup, brown sugar, & cold coffee. Some fruitiness present on the end, but it isn't what I would describe as dark fruit, more juicy & earthy. There is no denying that there is a lot going on here.

T - Sticky, boozy chocolate syrup. Caramel. Toffee. Oak wood. Dark malt / coffee bean roast. Brown sugar. Earthy yeast, taffy apples, and some other indistinct fruitiness on the finish. Notes of vanilla, as the beer warms. Again, there is a lot of stuff going on here. Layers of fudgey chocolate roasted goodness.

M - Feel is smooth and creamy, with a long sticky candied, malty, caramel finish.

Overall, a big, bold, and brave beer. Definitely not as hot and messy as others have said, so maybe a year in the bottle did it some good. Sticky, sweet, and hot, but not overly so, and at no point is the massive 16.00% abv apparent, although I'm sure it is destined to doom me. A recommended slow sipper.

My parents were in the Hitler Youth, but some of their best friends are/were Jewish. I've had one or two other brews from this brewery, but I was saving this one for a special occasion. In this case, putting up the Christmas tree and watching OSU/Michigan.

It is a huge, sweet beer. Pouring it almost straight down a tall glass gave a huge dark brown head. A spectacle.

The taste is way sweet. It begs to be sipped. The aftertaste is so complex and cool. Totally worth it.

Overall, this is a great beer and I am glad I bought it. It aged fine. I guess it is a one shot deal and I will never be able to get it again.

Poured into a Due South Brewing Co. snifter. Bottle aged approximately one year.

A- Pours a fully opaque black color with a 1/2 inch light brown head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a bubbly center patch of surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing slides slowly down the glass leaving a tight-knit sheet of foam behind.

S- Potent aroma of caramel, vanilla and oak. Quite sweet but the dark roast penetrates hard enough to make a nice contrast.

T- Sweetness at first with a slightly boozy kick but the burnt sugar flavor and dark roast evens things out. The dark roast lingers heavy in the aftertaste leaving notes of dark chocolate, coffee and toffee in its wake. Every sip seems like the alcohol will tip the scales in terms of drinkability but the other flavors push through hard enough to stop the heat in its tracks and make for a pleasant taste. There's also a decent amount of bitterness from the hops to keep everything sufficiently in check.

M- Slightly sharp from the booze and there's a small stinging in the throat as it goes down. Also kind of syrupy and sticky with medium-low carbonation and a full body.

O- I always enjoy Jewbelation this time of year. It's a nice, affordable strong ale that goes down pretty easy even though it has an intensely high ABV. Good for a cold night such as tonight.

appearance: Very dark, nearly opaque ruby. Substantial tan head on the pour that mostly recedes.
smell: Fairly subdued and complex. Guess that sounds contradictory but I expected 16 malts and 16 hops and 16% Abv to be pretty in your face. Pretty tame though, malt forward, roasty and unique.
taste: More of the same. Much like the nose. Delish.
overall: Drank one of these fresh and loved it. Put one back for a year and loved it. This got trashed quite a bit. I'm a big port fan and have a soft spot for big abv sweet monsters, which this is. Gentle giant here. Not sure why it didn't get more love other than a general aversion to sweet beers.
