I stopped by this place a couple of times on my recent visit to Riga (I'm originally from there and return about once a year to visit friends). The first time was more or less by accident. I stopped by there beer store with a friend. After seeing the selection, I decided to return to visit the bar as well.

The place is right in the center of Old Town, very close to the Dome Cathedral, which makes it very a convenient stop for any visiting tourist. They have an outdoor patio in front of the place (and it is really nice to sit outside on a warm sunny day enjoying the sites of Old Town). As you enter, there is a small beer store on the left and a larger bar on the right.

The beer store has a wonderful import bottle selection. Very heavy on Belgian brews. I picked up a few bottles for my friends. Didn't really pay attention to the prices since it's always hard for me to judge what's fair and what's overpriced in the local market. Service at the store was very friendly.

I visited the bar in the morning, almost as soon as they opened. At one point I was the only patron at the bar, but another tourist joined me shortly. The bar is fairly long (probably around 15 people) and it starts as soon as you enter. There are some tables in the back.

Selection was pretty good - some local beers (Tervetes, Piebalga, Bruveris, Madonas) and some good imports (Celis White, Double Chocolate, XX Bitter, Augustiner). They had a cask ale (London Porter). I do recall that some beer was of questionable quality. Made me remember an article I've read about not being the first person in the day to get a beer as it was stored in the lines overnight. I also wondered how fast they move beer (I'm guessing some of them may sit there for quite some time).

The service was not so good on my particular visit. I don't need constant hovering of a bartender, but when my glass is empty I want a prompt "Would you like another beer?" instead of a bartender chatting with his friends. I should mention that the bartender spoke excellent English.

I think this is a new place, and I think they have some work to iron out the kinks. Although I was not impressed by the bar (but was very impressed by the store), they have potential. I will definitely stop by next time I'm in the city.
