In the Gas Lamp Quarter of San Diego, there seems to be infinite number of places to dine while enjoying a proper pint. My girlfriend and I stopped here only because it just so happened to be the first place we saw after we parked. That turned out to be a blessing.

Atmosphere: typical indoor/outdoor cafe set among a sprawling downtown area. clean and new.

Quality/Selection: there is a fairly impressive selection of local and semi-rare craft beers. There is honestly something here for anyone. I was excited to get a Lost Abbey Avant Garde, while my girl got a local hefe.

Service: very enthusiastic and helpful

Food: high end at a decent price. it was very tasty and unique.

This is a place that I would love to go to again!

This place has a nice sized bar that can seat about 15 or so. Open windows let in plenty of refreshing air. A large blackboard list the beers on draft and in bottle. There is a shuffleboard table here, but some over intoxicated players did make this visit a bit annoying. There are some outdoor tables too.

There are about 20 drafts available and they cover a bunch of local breweries and major micros. Beers were fresh and service was prompt. Not a bad place to stop, but there were more enjoyable and relaxing places in this area.

Located in the Gaslamp, but off of the main drag, so not quite as crowded. Good selection of taps and bottles, small but tasty menu of pub food. Indoor and outdoor seating available, $8 flights too. Overall has kind of a neighborhood vibe going on, nice to find this downtown.

Rating update - 4/9/17: The new outdoor area is awesome. Tons of seating, games, etc. But this was a visit of opposites.
The beer selection seems to be worse than it used to be, and the menu seemed to have no correlation to what was actually available.. Assuming the keg wasn't empty.. Just frustrating to have no idea what beers they have when you want to order.
The food, though. I had the Short Rib Dip sandwich. My. God. It was honestly, one of the best things I've ever eaten, and that is not an exaggeration. The perfect thing to eat with a beer before heading to the baseball game. Beer issues aside, I will go back to this place and eat that sandwich as often as possible.

I come to this place to watch NY Giants games and enjoy some beer and appetizers. The atmosphere is nice, as everyone who comes on Sundays is pretty much here to see the Giants. The quality is nice, but during games the place can get quite crowded. Service is nice and efficient, but the servers seem to know very little about beer. The selection of beers is pretty good, but every Sunday that I go in there seems to be the same beers on the line-up. It would be nice to see some new beers on the draft list. The food I have had so far has beer pretty darn goo, but I can only comment on the appetizers as I haven't had any on the entrées. The garlic parmesan knotty wings and truffle fries are amazing. The prices here are reasonable compared to other beer bars. Overall, its a nice place to come enjoy some brews and watch some sports.

My experiences with Knotty Barrel have been a bit polarizing, but on the whole, good. On most occasions, the servers remember my girlfriend and I when we come in and are friendly and helpful. However, one time when I ordered a bottle conditioned beer, the server poured the entire bottle, including the yeast, into my glass. It was disappointing that the server didn't know how to properly serve a bottle conditioned beer considering this bar is trying to sell itself on being a beer joint. The food is also polarizing. The appetizers are outright amazing (friend pickles and truffle fries), but the entrees (angus burger and salad) were bland and dry. The beer selection, while above average, tends to rehash the same beers and breweries week after week. It would be nice to see the taps rotated once in a while. All in all, this is a great place to come for happy hour, but I would not recommend it for dinner.
