Schlenkerla Smokebeer Wheat is an ale with light smoky aroma. As Bavarian wheat beers, it is being brewed with a mixture of both barley malt and wheat malt. The portion of barley malt is hereby a classic Schlenkerla smokemalt, while the wheat malt remains unsmoked. Served unfiltered with its natural haziness, Schlenkerla Wheat reaches its full aroma through bottle fermentation with fine top fermenting yeast.

Holy Smokes! Ah, I deserve to be shot for that.
Anyway. First and last impression of this beer is that of holding your face over a hardwood bonfire and inhaling deeply. Throw a kielbasa or sausage in there for good measure, carbonate it, ferment it, put it in a bottle, and voila! You have a Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Weizen. Clearly not how it's made, but a adequate description of the flavor. Looking for a good wheat beer with a hint of smoky flaver? Pass on this one. This is an intensely smoky experience with some weizen buried deep under the surface, revealing itself only after the initial smokehouse essence hits.
Appearance is a bit more amber than most other weizens, reflecting the flavor nicely. Medium sized head, though light in texture. Same goes for mouth feel, though you may grow tired of the beer quickly anyway thanks to its intensity. The light body is a stunning disconnect from the (over)powerful taste.
Drinkability on this one is going to vary considerably, though even for the most hardened rauchbier drinkers I wouldn't call this a session beer. A pint or two at most I would imagine sufficient to take care of anybody's hankering for some good smokiness, but a very enjoyable pint or two it would be.

If you drunk water and smoked ham or sausages, this is the general flavour of this beer, unusual but smooth and pleasant

500 ml bottle poured into a tulip pint glass. This is more restrained in terms of smoke flavor (as to be expected) and the wheat definitely comes through. Some banana and dark fruit (fig/date). It strikes me as a dark wheat beer (German style) with some smoke character. It's on the sweet side with a creamy/full mouthfeel. Overall an enjoyable beer to enjoy while sitting by a bonfire (which is what I'd been saving it for)!

Pours murky, dark brown with frothy head. Smoky herbs and woodfire on nose. Taste follows, with malty afters. Full enough feel. Sweet and smoky, like a beer barbecue sauce!

500ml bottle. No dating information found.
Clear, deep amber colored body. Long lasting, tiny bubble beige colored head. No lacing.
Aroma is smoked malt, and a bit of tangy wheat malt.
Taste is smoked malt and very tangy wheat malt. The wheat malt expresses green apple and lemon, while the barley malt is campfire smoky. The smoke drops off quickly in the aftertaste.
Medium mouth feel. Crisp finish. Very good carbonation.
The smoked flavor provides a change of direction but the wheat malt introduces tanginess. Very easy drinking.

500 ml bottle, no date
pours a cloudy medium brown, with thick cream colored head. When held up to the light, some rusty orange highlights. Aroma is very smoky - first whiff is a bit like smoked meat, but longer I smell the more woodiness I get. Taste is mix of smoke and a little sweetness from the wheat. Long finish. Medium bodied, higher carbonation

I have enjoyed a number of rauchebiers from the brewer.
The aroma, taste and MF are lighter in smoky flavor. An excellent beer, but I prefer the more intense rauchbiers for the brewery.

Picked up a bottle at the Appalachian Vintner in Asheville 9-20-22 for $5.99. No bottle date; consumed 11-20-22.
Beer poured brown with a very nice white head.
Nose is smoked malts forward, very nice.
Taste is a light malt base with a mix of smoked barley and unsmoked wheat malt. Finishes very balanced with adequate hopping.
Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and pretty smooth.
Overall a nice change of pace beer that is well done.

A tastey smoked wheat beer from Germany. A malty banana, clove, & smoke treat. Well done for the style.
