-deep brown, but clear bottle pour with a thin tan foam cap. The aroma is light smoke- ash or birch; the flavor is dense with smoked malt and quite tempered by the aging. The oak is noted. The smoke persists in the finish. This is well-done!

500mL undated bottle poured into a 500mL mug at fridge temp 6.5% ABV. The beer pours dark to medium brown with light brown head. The head recedes to a thin cap. The aroma is campfire smoke and a little ham. The taste starts with some malt and is quickly cast aside for more smoke. There is little bitterness and a lasting meaty, malty, smokey aftertaste that is pleasant. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, adequately carbonated, and dry despite it's richness. Overall, excellent. Really outstanding if you like other smoked malt beers.

ABV is 6.5% on label description.
Poured from 1 pint 0.9 fluid ounce bottle into glass. No bottling date marked on bottle or glass.
Deep amber, clear body. Light tan persistent head. Rings of lacing.
Dark malt aroma, with smoke, and smoked meat.
Taste of dark malt, sweet and spice, with smoke and bacon.
Medium mouth feel, spicy. Smokiness persists in aftertaste.
Very good representative of smoked beer (rauchbier). The sweet taste helps to balance the darky malt and smoke.

Look: poured from a tall brown pint bottle. No clear freshness date. Poured into Weistephaner Weiss glass with a light head, probably more appropriate to use a Fest Stein glass.
Smell: The scent of roasted malts immediately followed by a rich smokiness completely identifying the to smell of smoked meats.
Taste: A rich dark dunkel with the right smokey flavor to fufill its strong scent. This is absolutely an acquired flavor, but is incredible when it is what you are looking for. One of my favorite German styles.
Feel: A thick full body that matches the beer's identity.
Overall: This style of beer has become one of my favorite beer styles and is because of the Schlenkerla Urbock, the best and original of its kind.

500ml bottle from Bitter Virtue, Southampton, UK.
Smokey bacon flavoured beer! Dark liquid but very transient head. Smoke on the nose. More carbonated than I expected. Slips down all too easily. Truly delicious with great length. Must get some more.

Pours a dark amber with smokey aroma immediately emanating from the bottle then seeping from the glass with bacon on campfire feeling. Taste is a wonderful caramel malt oozing of sweet maple smoked bacon. Warming smooth finish. Great beer.

Poured into a lager glass, the appearance was a murky semi-dark amber to brown color with a sustaining finger's worth of white foamy head that slid off at a mild pace. Nice looking semi-filmy lace coated and ended up spider webbing slightly.
The aroma had a nice sweet smoky meaty somewhat bacon-like character with a smooth sweet wood/slightly oaky and ended with a little bit of sweet earth, maybe some earth.
The flavor took all of those prior mentioned aromas to pull it together nicely, mostly sweet with a touch of spice, somewhat like chicory but super light (honestly, I'm probably only dreaming that, not even sure why I got what I think was chicory). Mild aftertaste of some oak, sweetness and meat with a mild smoke to it.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied, perhaps just a touch under with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt good. Super nice smoothness rounded out the feel very nicely.
Overall, a very well done rauchbier with some bock qualities coming about nicely. Would love to have again.

1pt, 0.9oz bottle served in a Weihenstephaner glass. No date.

Appearance: Dark brown with hints of amber when held up to the light. Initial 1/4" thick light tan head died back to a 1/16" persistent pillowy head. Some occasional islands and strands of persistent lacing.

Smell: Very nice woody smoke aroma, with a bit of a grilled meaty aroma under it.

Taste: Good woody smoky taste up front, then a nice sweet bock/doppelbock taste in the middle, then a lingering smoky finish with some hints of bacon and phenol.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, creamy, light carbonation. A bit sticky on the teeth.

Overall / Drinkability: A great beer. I don't think I could have another bottle of this size in one evening, but I would definitely get it again. Very tasty and went well with food (balsamic chicken with rice pilaf) and I think it would go with a wide range of food. But good by itself after the meal to sip and savor.

Pours a dark brown with mahogany veining. Minimal head retention. It's very aromatic with the smoke. It smells like Christmas ham. There's a nice chocolatey and peaty undertone of malt beneath the plethora of smoked meat. This is a BBQ brisket in a glass. It's Schlenkerla, what do you expect? Beautiful smoked beers.

Bottle poured into a pint glass

A: Pours a dark, ruby brown color with a tan colored creamy, full head, good amount of lacing and retention, looks nicely carbonation as well.

A: Deep aromas of smoke, char, smoked teriyaki beef, smoked soy sauce, smoked wood, earthy with a slight smoked herb or spice, roasted malts.

T: Like the nose, deep notes of smoke, char, smoked beef, teriyaki, wood, finish is dry with a slight spice and herb notes, smoked malts linger in the finish, very nice.

M: Medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation, smooth almost like an oatmeal stout, dry finish.

O: Very tasty, I enjoy smoked meats and this has lots of smoked aromas and flavors, very drinkable, smooth mouthfeel, we need six-packs in southern CA.

Look: Rich, dark mahogany brown with a medium tank head consisting of tinby bubbles giving it a smooth appearance.
Smell: Like smoked beef jerkey. Bread. But mostly smoked meat.
Taste: First thing I got was bread, followed up by copious amounts of smokiness, roastiness, wood, wood chips.
Feel: Slick with a medium body that foams up easily and also goes down smooth. Flavors cling to cheeks and tongue.
Overall: Very unique beer. I was expecting campfire in a bottle but I got smoked jerky. None-the-less, I enjoyed it and would probably get to share with beer-newbies to introduce a strange-by-modern-standards style.
