The king of the rauchbiers that is produced by the best rauchbier brewery. Everything comes together at the top for this supreme rauchbier. A little bit smokey for many and a taste of great bacon permeates.

Nice smoke beer. Has a lingering aftertaste of smoked meats, as expected. To me, the Alaskan and Stone smoked porters are the gold standard for the style. Still, this is the European traditional Rauchbier and they know what they're doing, that's for sure.

Mini review:

Almost black, with some ruby tinges and a lacy off white head.

Smells like smokey beef jerky and some roasted malt.

Taste is smokey beef as well, some coffee, and sweet caramel.
As it warms, a big sweetness comes out.

Very unique beer, enjoyable as a every so often treat, but not something I would drink on a weekly basis.

Poured bottle into a goblet.

Look: Dark ruby, brown with no head. Generally clear but with minor haze. Small layer of tan bubbles.

Smell: Very heavy smoke followed by bacon/beef jerky. Pleasant.

Taste: Smoke, bacon, and bready malt. Chocolate notes come through as well. Balanced hop bitterness but not much flavor. Pleasant smoke flavor lingers but not overpowering. Rich and balanced.

Mouth Feel: Big body but balanced with firm carbonation. Easy to drink.

Overall: Incredibly pleasant to drink. Definitely able to have more than one during a sitting. Quite approachable.

Intense smoke flavor and smell, feels like there should be some anise flavor added (first rauchbier I have had, so maybe not). Light body. I would share this with a couple friends and pair it with something that goes with the smokey flavor.

Poured from a 500 mL bottle into a goblet.

Look - Dark opaque brown with no head but a small layer of sand colored bubbles. A very robust color to the body.

Smell - Very heavy smell of chocolate on the forefront followed by a bit of a beef jerky, campfire type smoky smell. Not as smoky on the nose as I would have expected.

Taste - The chocolate from the smell carries over to the taste along with a lot of sweet bready malt. The taste lingers for a long while before evaporating to a pleasant bit of smoke that doesn't overpower everything. On the verge of single trick, it isn't horribly complex, but it is rich and balanced and lovely.

Feel - Thick heavy body with an active peppy fizz. The carbonation keeps it from being too tough of a drink.

Overall - Incredibly pleasant to drink, but it's definitely a slow drink with how heavy it is. Surprisingly approachable despite its intimidating classification as a "smoke beer."

a: dark, muddy brown color with a hint of ruby red/purple towards the bottom of the glass where light is penetrating. a nice 2 finger tan frothy head

s: lots of campfire smoke and charred wood up front. some meaty bacon behind that. caramel malts, generic sweet berries and a touch of herbal hops to close it out and help balance out the aroma

t: follows the nose pretty well. it starts with that charred wood and campfire flavor that dominates the tongue. behind that is smoked bacon and a nice amount of sweet caramel malts. just a touch of noble hops and more campfire to finish. awesome taste

m: medium mouthfeel with mid-high carbonation. the carbonation really helps to accent the smokiness in here

o: excellent Rauchbier. smoke is definitely the dominant aspect in the aroma and taste, but it has just the right amount of sweet malt and hops to balance the beer out. delicious, and each sip leaves you wanting more

-deep brown, but clear bottle pour with a thin tan foam cap. The aroma is light smoke- ash or birch; the flavor is dense with smoked malt and quite tempered by the aging. The oak is noted. The smoke persists in the finish. This is well-done!

500mL undated bottle poured into a 500mL mug at fridge temp 6.5% ABV. The beer pours dark to medium brown with light brown head. The head recedes to a thin cap. The aroma is campfire smoke and a little ham. The taste starts with some malt and is quickly cast aside for more smoke. There is little bitterness and a lasting meaty, malty, smokey aftertaste that is pleasant. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, adequately carbonated, and dry despite it's richness. Overall, excellent. Really outstanding if you like other smoked malt beers.
