Poured from bottle into wine glass(only thing available), nice 2 finger tan head, recedes after a minute pretty good lacing. Dark brown in the glass, very little light passes thru. Smells of roasted malt, bacon, ham, all good things that are smoked. Taste is sweet malt with a hammy/bacon smoke flavor has a mild earthy bitterness on the finish. It is so easy to go Wrong on this style, but this is truly well balanced. Thanks to the girl working at Tony's in Shreveport that told me to get this

I've tried this before and I've tried Märzen by this Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier bramd too. This brewery. I love the smell of this. Just ham, meaty, meat, barbecue, smoky ham meat! I can imagine how delicious this is with christmas/xmas Ham that we eat here in Finland when its christmas. Delicious.

Bootle looks very cool and kind of royal and looks more royal than Märzen I think. It looks kind of Ruby black. Reddish but strong black/brown. Dark brown with some rubeh ruby red on it. Small white creamy head, not much head for me. Lightly carbonated, not highly carbonated. Smell is delicious to me. Pork bacon savory salty smoky. :D
Taste=just tastes good and nice basic dark bock beer. Smoky ham type of taste. It's more in the smell than in the taste. But it tastes like it smells and feels smooth and light. Scrumptious. I'd like to drink this with a rhyebread sandwich that has mustard and ham in the middle. Delicious combo during holidays.

Overall, great beer. Delicious bock urbock. I find it easier to drink than Märzen slightly and the bottle looks cooler as well. I do recommend this. Not top tier beer but very good.

Extremely dark ruby red, murky appearance.

Thick white head; decent lacing.

Smells like a fresh pig just pit on the spit. The ham smell borders on the obnoxious, it is so strong.

Medium mouthfeel.

The taste follows the nose; this tastes like delicious barbecued pork. If that appeals to you, welcome to heaven. If it doesn't, run for the hills my friend. Perhaps the most flavorful beer I've ever tasted.

Been wanting to have this for awhile.
The appearance is a dark reddish brown with a bit of clarity.
The aroma is a nice intense BBQ smokiness, and big malt sweetness.
The taste is woody smokiness with a chocolate malt sweetness that mixes well.
Has a nice medium plus palate with a smokiness that lingers pleasantly.
Overall this is another awesome rauchbeer that I would love to have at the source.

From a bottle in Atlanta.
Clear dark brown body with a very good head.
Very smooth, near full feel with pepper carbonation.
Very smoky aroma and flavor but not quite to the level that would totally mask some dark bread notes.
Overall: excellent for style.

L : Passed this up several times, finally decided to give it a whirl. It's pronounced "Aeisht Shlinkowla RowchbEErh". Anyways! This Urbock pours hazelnut from the bottle and forms a dark chocolate black in the duvel. The head is puffy and large, 3 fingers, and gradually recedes to a finger and sticks. Lace left on the glass sparsely.

S : Aaaand the aroma is like walking into a butcher shop. Cured hard meats, smoked salami, with a light herbal freshness and bright malts.

T : The smoke comes out first, giving way immediately to pastrami, then to roasted malts, and finally to a semi-bitter twist of cilantro, celery, and citrus rind.

F : Fabulous, as expected. Very wet, very dense, very malty and creamy. Nice carbonation pops things up a bit. Finish is slightly smokey.

O : The Urbock isn't half bad, but nowhere near the stature of their Marzen. I really thought this was going to have more flavor popping out than it did; instead it gives you a nip of smoke and then disappears into a light German Bock.

Smells and tastes like a camp fire. For me, this is nothing more than a novelty. Interesting on the first sip, but getting harder and harder to finish.
