Pours a dark dark ruby with a white head. Smells of smokiness, almost like bacon. Tastes of salty smoked bacon and some maltiness. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Overall I can see this being a great beer for the style, but I can honestly say this style is not really for me. I'd love to try others of this style though.

Excellent Fall/Winter beer to keep in stock. One at a time is enough as the smoke flavor is prevalent, but natural and mellowed by the sweet malt. I use this during the holidays to season my collard greens!

Poured into dimpled seidel.

Appearance: Lovely ruby brown. Medium beige head.

Nose: Smoky like mesquite or grandma's kitchen.

Taste: smoke spice of front, pork, some dark grain, faint caramel sweet.

Mouth; Medium, full, delighted.

A great little breakfast beer. Not overly complex, but with good smoking and balance. Worth it.

Look - Pours a clear dark amber color, three fingers of foamy light khaki head, great retention and lacing.
Aroma - Savory, smoked jerky, anise, vague sweetness hidden somewhere.
Taste - A lot lighter than expected. Smoke is dominant, savory and spicy up front, reminiscent of salty smoked bacon, very light caramel flavors toward the middle. The finish and aftertaste are toasty, grainy and of course smokey.
Feel - Light to medium bodied, has a dry spicy feel, smooth carbonation.

Overall - The aroma is stronger than the taste but it's still very enjoyable. I'll have to try their bock and compare it to this.

A: Deep dark brown with garnet highlights when held to light. A thin off white head leaves a minimal foamy surface coverage and patches of lace on the sides of my favorite handled tankard.

A: Beech smoke dominance over a slightly medicinal and metallic aroma. Oddly reminds me of a campfire at Christmas up in the mountains.

T: Smoked honey glazed ham. A touch of roasted nuttiness and sweet caramel compliment the intensity of the smokey embers of wood.

F: Light and surprisingly thinner than I remembered with minimal carbonation, and assumedly balanced. Hard to detect any sweet or bitter dominance behind its smoke.

O: There's a reason this bier is rated so highly. It's phenomenal and at the same time proof that a beer doesn't need to be 10+ percent abv, or 100+ ibu to be intense or unique. It's modest 5.1% and smooth body suit me just fine. Prost!

Intro note: Absolutely amazing! My first sample of the smoked beer style. Pairs very well with cold cuts and other meat serving varietals. I suspect that this is the bratwurst's best friend. If you like grilled food for the char factor, and/or if you enjoy smoked meats (cured or uncured), this is a good beer for you. If you aren't into savory and are all about sweet, it's possible that this one isn't for you.

A - Schwarzbier black, licorice taffy, coffee
S - Wood smoke... definitely not a charcoal / gas / other smoke. Cured smoked meat. BBQ. Burnt tip of a well cooked piece of red meat. Burnt wooden kebab skewer.
T - Smokey goodness paired with the schwazbier malty sweetness. Not a big alcohol kick. As if I'm drinking a charred lambskin cooked to perfection coated with some brown sugar. Did I mention smoke? Holy guacamole smoke.
M - Light, easy to drink and swallow. Moves across the palate with ease. No alcohol kick as mentioned previously. Leaves an aftertaste of smoked meat, cured smoked salami, etc. towards beginning of aftertaste kick-in, and towards end of aftertaste phase the sweetness of the malts begins to become more apparent. Big dehydration factor on this one - more so than with other beers (dark, light, strong, weak, etc.). Might it be the smoke?
O - Fudging amazing I can't even begin to explain how perfect this beer is. I'm a fan of belgians, hefeweizens, schwarzbiers, all 90+ score IPA's I've tried so far, stouts, porters, witbiers, blondes, and sours (lactobacillus in da mash!), but this is a standout first trial, and I've got the pleasure of adding smoked beer to my fave styles. Freakin' awesome. If you enjoy BBQ food, BBQ sauce, the smell of wood smoke (think forest fire from distance), dark beer in general, savory food, cured meat, smoked meat, burnt tips of shish kebab / chicken breast / etc, try this beer. If you are a pastries-only butterfly, perhaps float along.

Very unlike what I usually get. A very smoky flavor. Surprisingly good!

Appearance - Pours semi transparent thin mahogany with decent tan head that dissipates pretty quickly leaving a light film. Spotty lacing around the glass.

Aroma - Smells of charred wood, ash and smoked meat. Hints of malts.

Taste - Wow this has really great flavors, taste follows the aroma closely but not as much ash/burned oak. The taste is very smooth the smoke flavor adds depth and is not overwhelming at all. More smoked meat thick flavor but the beer is not thick at all. There seems to be underlying molasses that somehow adds a touch of sweetness.

Feel - Medium bodied, very smooth and creamy low carbonation.

Overall - This is an excellent beer, I have no idea how they get so much smoke in the aroma and the taste is so smooth and balanced.

Bottle to Goblet.
Smells like pepperidge farms smoked sausage. Peppery, beef, pork. Dark brown, no head. Taste is malty, and strange with all the sausage flavors. Watery Feel.
