Bold color with sheets of rising carbonation and a thick, stick, white head; rings and fingers of foam adhering to the glass. Grapefruit and orange aromas; a pinch of spiciness; subtle, deep caramel malt aroma. Decent mixture of strong hop bitterness with a juicy, malty flavor supporting things. Medium-heavy feel; fairly dry finish with mildly prickly carbonation and an undercurrent of residual sugar sweetness adding to the body.

Claiming an estimated 185 IBUs, this beer does deliver with a very apparent hop bitterness. Still, it doesn't quite seem to rip your face off, bitterness-wise, as some more well-known hop bombs do, but it still makes its presence known in a well-balanced, persistent manner. A nice find and well worth searching out...

Got in a trade with beergoot. 12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 4/2/2019. Pours fairly hazy/cloudy deep golden/orange/amber color with a 1 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, honey, caramel, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and dark/bready malt notes; with big strength. Taste of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, honey, caramel, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, honey, caramel, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/sticky, and fairly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 10.5%. Overall this is an excellent DIPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV, with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish; not overly aggressive. Well attenuated and not overly sweet for the ABV. Great Columbus, Cascade, Mosaic profile. Very juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hops; with a great balanced dark/bready malt backbone. Mild residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and impressive well made style example. No complaints. I expected it to be more aggressive with the theoretical 185IBU claim, but it is really well balanced for the style.

12 oz can. Pours very hazy light amber with a medium creamy white head that quickly goes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is sweet caramel malt with ripe fruity hops and a bit of butterscotch wort.

The flavor is sweet sugary grainy butterscotch malts with some chemical bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is thin and watery.

Overall, a bit of a mess with lots of diacetyl.

Poured a nice golden orange color with a one finger head. Lots of carbonation bubbles floating to the surface providing great retention and nice lacing. The smell of tropical fruit and citrus is big, with pineapple and mango being the most prominent aromas. The taste was very piney up front, then pineapple, then sweetness, and finally alcohol - not surprising for a 10.5% brew. The mouthfeel was fairly full bodied and creamy, very nice. This big bad 185 IBU brew is probably the best of the group coming out of Pikes Peak Brewery - not bad for a fairly small outfit. I was pleasantly surprised as most of their beers are just good to OK.

Thanks Nick!

Poured a honey, orange, slightly hazy color with three fingers of foamy, frothy, white head. Light amount of bubbles coming up at various streams from the bottom of the glass. Even layered of thick foamy lacing along the sides of the glass. Thick amount of retention on the top all the way down the glass. (Sight - 4.00)

Initial whiff caused me to tilt my head to the side and ask what is that? That would be coconut in my chap stick. Then I recovered and out came in the hop bomb - tropical hops, Simcoe hops, floral hops, grapefruit rind, orange creamscicle, tangerine juice, mango juice, pine, resin hops and Citra hops. (Smell - 4.00)

Taste was similar to the nose, but not quite as good. Got a multitude of hops - tropical , Simcoe, resin, Citra and floral - orange rind, mango notes, tangerine rind, caramel and boozy rubbing alcohol late. (Taste - 3.75)

Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, bitter finish. (Feel - 3.75)

A pretty good beer, not tasting like a 10.5 percenter. A little rough and grainy, but a good imperial IPA. (Overall - 3.75)

185 IBUs. Hop and resin bomb. Sold in 16 oz cans at 8$ a pop at brewery. Some local shops got some bottles. Very small batch and limited release.

***Updated 10/19/14***
They've apparently made another batch and lowered the price. I've seen it sold now for 4$ a can and as four-packs for 16$.
